After reading Flow: Women's Counternarratives from Rivers, Rock, and Sky, Ken Kullby was inspired to write an essay reflecting on their own experience as a kayakerโ€”and we're grateful to have the opportunity to share it with you in our latest blog post! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿšฃ

Medicine Wheel Publishing on display at Russell Books ๐Ÿงก Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliationโ€”also known as Orange Shirt Dayโ€”an important day of recognition, reflection, and conversation to honour Residential School Survivors and their families.

was founded by Phyllis Webstad, author of many books including Today is Orange Shirt Day, The Orange Shirt Story, and Every Child Matters, published by Medicine Wheel. Phyllis (nรฉe Jack) is Northern Secwรฉpemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecemโ€™c Xgetโ€™tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band). As the Founder and Ambassador of the Orange Shirt Society, she tours the country telling her story and raising awareness about the ongoing impacts of the residential school system.

We hold deep gratitude for Phyllis and Indigenous communities across Turtle Island, whose courage in sharing their stories continues to educate and awaken usโ€”even though it shouldnโ€™t be their burden to bear. We recognize that with this truth comes responsibility, and Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to take meaningful action.

Happy Publication Day to Understory: An Ecologistโ€™s Memoir of Loss and Hope by Kevin Van Tighem! ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’™

"...Both an ecologistโ€™s lament and a love letter to the wounded wild landscapes that endure, Understory asks: How do you see the land, and how does the land see you? This is Van Tighem as youโ€™ve never seen him before: tender, unflinching, and full of hard-won wisdom. Understory is an illuminating offering for these urgent times.โ€
โ€”Trina Moyles, author of Lookout: Love, Solitude, and Searching for Wildfire in the Boreal Forest

Understory is available for purchase at your favourite local bookshop or through online retailers, and direct from RMB ๐Ÿ“š https://shoplocal.bookmanager.com/isbn/9781771607452

Happy Publication Day to Conservation Confidential: A Biologist Investigates the Clash Between Progress and Nature by Lorne Fitch! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿšœ

Drawing on decades as a biologist, Lorne Fitch reflects on the complex dynamics between science, industry, and development. With wit, sharp critique, and heartfelt storytelling, he contrasts the priorities of industries like forestry, mining, and agriculture with the values of conservationists, asking: ๐’‹๐’–๐’”๐’• ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’„๐’‚๐’–๐’”๐’† ๐’”๐’๐’Ž๐’†๐’•๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’„๐’‚๐’ ๐’ƒ๐’† ๐’…๐’๐’๐’†, ๐’”๐’‰๐’๐’–๐’๐’… ๐’Š๐’•?

Conservation Confidential marks Lorneโ€™s third book with RMB, following Streams of Consequence (2023) and Travels Up the Creek (2024) โ€“ you can find all three books at your local bookstore and online! https://shoplocal.bookmanager.com/isbn/9781771607537
