Aug. 2023, Janine and I had a little getaway together.
I almost forgot about this poem I wrote while we visited a smaller island up off Vancouver Island.....
I watched the sun move today
I had the time to see it meander
Across the tree-tops, it glowed hotly
As I stuck my feet in the shallow cool water
the wind blew through my hair
like it blew through the leaves
the fish swam below my toes
at the side of the dock
only the odd lone bird pierced the silence
that is except for the wind
perhaps it was a crow
going about its daily business,
while a canoe bobbed empty beside me
Could I empty my mind, once?
and make room for every sound I hear?
Crickets chirp but I only just now notice
A sea-plane flies low, but far away
It's musical engine humming, changing notes
Suddenly a sea otter pops its head
above the waters surface!
Oh... wait, silly me
It's not wild-life, it's MY wife,
returning from a swim
across Reflections Bay.
