Life lately.

A lot of moving...
A lot of learning...
A lot of adjusting...
And a whole lot of quintessential British Columbia 🇨🇦 .

So THATS how all this canvas works. 🤯

Just when we were starting to worry we’d forgotten how to use our sails, we got a respite in the weather along a notoriously turbulent stretch of water today for the best sailing we’ve done in recent memory. 😎

From the captain’s log (5/19):

Picked up the hook and lucked out to not be caught in the rotting wood and cables from an old logging site. Moved to Campbell River for a night (or two, who knows) to get some fuel, water and fishing supplies.

Apparently fishing tackle is named after Alan Jackson songs because we got hootchies, moochies and chatahootchies… or something like that. Now to just learn to fish… 🎣

From waterline to the top of our mast is 65’.

From waterline to the lowest point of the Tacoma Narrows bridge is 186’.

It’s never once looked like enough room to clear. 😬

Going under bridges in sailboats is a great reminder that your eyes and brain don’t always read what’s right in front of you accurately. We’ve yet to find a bridge where we’re not double and triple checking our non-human eye readings as we’re approaching. 🫠

Yesterday morning, it finally happened: we slipped the lines from our slip at Van Isle Marina for the last time! 🥳

With our bow pointed south before we head north, we rode a wave of emotions (exhaustion counts as an emotion, right?) for 56 miles to the quiet, calm anchorage of Port Ludlow for the evening. We're bound for Olympia and Seattle for a few days this week before heading north for Northern Vancouver Island, Western B.C. and as much of Southeast Alaska we can get in this summer.

P.S. Shoutout to Van Isle Marina for being a top notch marina and keeping SIRI safe and sound for the last three years; We'll miss everyone that keeps that place running, including the fuel dock dog, Archie!

Always a sucker for a good sunset, a good pup, and a good ocean sound. 🌅
