Official results from tonight’s Wakefield Community Centre vote. The membership has voted yes to transfer the building to La Pêche. The board will now negotiate a final contract for the transfer.

According to the CWLP Board:

Vote Results: YES 225 - NO 48

The results of the vote FOR or AGAINST entrusting the board of directors to negotiate and finalize the transfer of the CWLP building to the Municipality of La Peche have been counted. A greater than 75% majority of voters have voted for the resolution.

Boaters, kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders (SUPs) may be seeing the Hills finest out on the water more often lately, but cops say they aren’t out to ruin anyone’s day.

The MRC des Collines – with the support of its six municipalities – has launched a new boating awareness campaign with a focus on “cohabitating” between non-motorized and motorized boat users.

Food banks ‘less and less taboo’

As the cost of living continues to rise in the Gatineau Hills each year, one business in Gracefield is looking to support lower income families from Low to Bouchette through food donations.

The food bank Au goût du jour opened its doors last July at 42 rue St. Joseph, and has since amassed roughly 80 to 100 customers each month, according to vice president Sylvie Lauber. It operates in collaboration with the Centre de Valorisation des Aliments de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau (CVAVG), an organization that aims to coordinate and support food, education and accessibility initiatives in the Gatineau Valley region.

Quebec’s language cops are going after a non-profit thrift shop in Chelsea, which has helped close to 20 refugee families get on their feet.

Chelsea Nearly New Shop president Dawn Bell-Jack told the Low Down that it was “unsettling” to receive a letter from l’Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) stating someone had complained about “a possible violation of the French Language Charter in your establishment.”
