Do not ask a chef to name their top three essential kitchen tools because that list doesn’t exist! You rarely hear a professional cook limit themselves to just a trio of items because cooking creates a chain reaction. Think about that classic children’s book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The story goes that if you give a mouse a cookie, he is going to want a glass of milk. Then he will require a straw. The list continues to grow endlessly. The exact same logic applies to your culinary space. If you give a chef a high-quality knife, they are going to need a sturdy wooden cutting board to protect the blade. Once they have the knife, they will need a steel to hone it. Suddenly, that leads to wanting a better pot, which requires proper wooden spoons and whisks to use inside of it.
