The Eurasian Blue Tit was high on my target list in UK. Although common, half the trip went by without seeing one. I hired an RSPB park bird guide - we found one hidden in the brush but no useful photo. I was so disappointed.

At Snowdonia, the AirBnB owner filled the bird feeder and told me it would come. I got my first good sighting here. Brine Pit Hides for photography also has these birds. So glad I got to see it 😃

Some moments you wish could last forever.

At the crack of dawn, JS and I got into the water, squeezed in our single kayak. Yes, we barely fit!

The water was calm, and I felt such peace, and yet my photographic mission was urgent. The swirling rising fog and early light was a fast changing magical scene, plus three loons were already there before us.

It's hard to catch all the action as there are limits while on the kayak - limited angle of sight, and shooting angle is even more limited. One can only twist the body so much, and safety always comes first - don't flip the kayak especially while wielding the heavy cameras.

The wing flap, my target dream shot, was happening! I swung my lens around to catch it, and barely caught this single frame.

Lighting was tricky as one moment one is pointing into the light and another there is barely enough light, plus the loons have both extreme tones of black and white to expose for. In order to operate fast, I set my camera to auto ISO and just controlled my shutter speed and exposure compensation.

Pleased with another challenging capture and successful edit. Coming soon to fall shows - see link in profile.

A snowflake-inspired flower flat lay. I do not prefer perfect symmetry achieved digitally so this was done by hand. Was very fiddly. Waning light dictated I was done rather than perfection!

Coming soon as art cards at my fall shows.

We were meters away from landing ashore, done kayaking. I really wasn't expecting to shoot anything more when this otter swam across and dove. My camera settings were for white water lily in bright sun, not a dark otter in the shade, underexposed 3 stops for this scene!

JS had no idea where the otter was as I was blocking his view and he kept rowing when it popped up again and this time it looked our way because I was urgently telling JS about it.

Because of the severe under exposure, I had major trouble seeing and focussing, plus the boat was moving. Meanwhile JS kept rowing and said "What?" He couldn't hear what I was saying and I repeated but didn't want to raise my voice and scare the otter! "What? WHAT?" He said and rowed. It was no use telling him to stop and shoot the otter.

I grabbed whatever shots I could with my long birding lens. The moment was over in seconds.

When I checked images on the back of the camera they were dismal black images that all seemed blur. I shook my head, almost cried, sure I'd blown the opportunity.

However yesterday I checked the images on the large monitor at home - found a perfect focus on one frame with tack sharp whiskers. How grateful and lucky I am. Otters have eluded me and now this! Thanks to raw capture and experienced editing skills - I've rescued this image. No AI generated content applied.

Come to my fall shows to see the high resolution image in print!
