Rideau Lakes Radio Launches āSocktoberā to Support Those in Need
Westport, ON āSeptember 26th, āRideau Lakes Radio is proud to announce the launch of āSocktober,ā a community-driven initiative aimed at collecting 500 pairs of socks for individuals and families facing challenging circumstances this fall.
In partnership with Loving Hands Kingston, Rideau Lakes Radio will distribute these essential items to those who need them most. Socks may seem small, but for someone struggling, they make a meaningful difference, especially as temperatures drop.
Listeners and community members are encouraged to contribute to this effort by donating new pairs of socks throughout the month of October. āOur goal is simple: warm feet, warm hearts, one pair of socks at a time,ā said John Pringle, station owner. āWith the support of our incredible community, and our listeners we know we can reach and maybe exceed our target of 500 new pairs of socksā.
Socks can be donated at Life is Good Westport, located at 14 Bedford Street, Westport Ontario. You can also donate to the cause by visiting our webpage and we will purchase socks on your behalf from a Canadian business.
For more information about Socktober and how to donate, please visit rideaulakesradio.com.
Side Note: I asked John what moved him to start āSocktoberā and he said he is the kind of man who always wears out the heels of his socks. āNo matter how new, they soon thin and split, leaving my skin exposed. Perhaps it reflects the way I move through life. Thankfully, I can replace my socks but for many people, a simple pair of clean, warm socks is a luxury. Without them, feet are vulnerable to cold, blisters, and infections that can escalate into serious health problems.ā
When asked about distribution and reach, John noted that they are partnering with Loving Hands Kingston, Founder Maryann Ruttan, who works with local caseworkers to ensure socks will reach those who need them most. While the initial focus is Kingston, Loving Hands Kingstonās reach extends to smaller communities like Verona and Tamworth. Since Rideau Lakes Radio broadcasts to Canada, the USA, and Australia, the hope is to inspire a larger impact beyond Westport and the Rideau Lakes.ā
