Walking along Seaham Beach, I discovered this handful of gorgeous sea glass, and I can’t stop thinking about what each piece might have been before the waves got hold of it.

Some of these greens and aquas could have come from old beer or soda bottles, maybe even wine bottles tossed into the sea generations ago. The lighter pieces might once have been medicinal bottles, or perhaps shards from vintage jars. Every shape and shade hints at a different story maybe a bit of a window, a chunk from an old glass buoy, or even tableware washed away by time and tide.

It’s wild to imagine these fragments living a completely different life, being broken, tumbled in the North Sea, and then finally, somehow, making their way into my palm.

That’s the magic of Seaham Beach: just wandering, you get to hold a little piece of history that’s been reborn as something new and beautiful. Finding them feels like getting a secret message from the past one with soft edges and a story that will always be partly a mystery.

Our Modern Day Beachcombing Kit went to Sicily 🇮🇹

My small business is a niche market, I curated a Shoreline Treasures Modern Day Beachcombing Kit derived from my love a beachcombing my local beach with my nephew during the pandemic.

Our Modern Day Beachcombing Kit went to the shores of Sicily last year with a dear friend. With its stainless steel rake, custom-sized mesh bag, and identification guide, it made collecting and learning about each find easy. From volcanic pebbles to Mediterranean sea glass, this island offered treasures at every turn.

Where will your next shoreline adventure take you?

More Seaham Treasures 🌊

My small business is a niche market, I curated a Treasures Modern Day Beachcombing Kit derived from my love a beachcombing my local beach with my nephew during Covid.

Seaham Beach is famous for its sea glass, and this collection shows why. These frosted blues and aquas were once discarded glass, tumbled in the North Sea for decades until every edge became smooth. Seaham was home to a Victorian glassworks that often dumped waste glass into the water, which is why so many unique colors still wash ashore today.

A couple of these pieces still have wire or metal embedded inside, likely remnants from old bottles, jars, or industrial glass that were reinforced or sealed with wire. Over time, the metal weathered alongside the glass, creating rare and fascinating finds. Each piece here has its own history, shaped by time, tide, and sand into something you can hold in your hand. The ocean turns the forgotten into something worth keeping.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Seaham Beach, tucked along England’s northeast coast, is a treasure trove for sea glass hunters. Once home to one of the largest glass bottle works in Europe, its shores are now scattered with smooth, frosted gems tossed up by the tide.

Some days the beach is quiet, the sea calm, and your pockets fill with colour. Other times, the waves roll strong and the hunt is harder but always worth it.

This place is part beach, part history lesson, part meditation. Whether you’re there for glass, fossils, driftwood, or just the air, Seaham leaves a mark.
