Have you ever experienced this? 👀

Cold messaging is, to me, a bizarre practice done by many entrepreneurs and business owners.

Cold messaging by definition is when someone attempts to contact another individual or company hoping to achieve a personal or professional goal such as to make sales, grow an email list, gain attention, etc.

Called messaging uses methods such as emails and other direct messages sent online to do so.

Why is this so freakin’ weird? 🤔

Those sending messages use your likes, dislikes and data to target you.

They pretend the know you personally, understand you and relate to you for a brief moment by connecting with you disingenuously, while their only goal is to make money, not actually help you or get to know you.

My take on why you should avoid cold messaging is this:

✅ Cold messaging is super creepy - the amount of digging done on you by someone you don’t even know is enough to give a person goosebumps.

✅ It’s ineffective - many people will find this very intrusive, leading them to lean away from you and your business, some even blocking you entirely.

✅ Cold messaging is impersonal - these messages are sent to hundreds, if not thousands a day, unsolicited. This is not a good practice for building trust or a relationship.

What I recommend instead:

1️⃣ Create quality content that provides value to your potential and existing clients.

2️⃣ Show up for them and pinpoint your content creation strategy to reach them in an organic way.

3️⃣ Be patient and allow what you do to find the people that need you.

Allow me to re-introduce myself! 👋🏼

It’s the long weekend, we’re all just hanging out and I thought I’d say hi!

I’m Katherine, some call me Kat, and True Growth Social is my freelance social media management and content creation business.

In June 2021, I was set to return to work after being on maternity leave, but I couldn’t possibly imagine not being at home all the time.

I knew I had to figure out a way to be present for my family and bring home some bacon at the same time.

With 7 years experience in running Instagram accounts for personal entertainment, including a small apparel business, unfortunate MLM collaboration and successful influencer page - I applied for a freelance position at and to my surprise, actually landed it.

To keep it short, my freelancing gig grew and turned into a full blown
Digital Marketing company right in front of my eyes.

I realized that the accounts I ran in the past were more than just for fun; they were learning opportunities that helped me grow my real-world social media experience and were a testament to showing how much I truly enjoy social media as a method of marketing.

My small business and MLM experience taught me that helping business owners share their passion with people was something that brought me purpose and pride.

I’m still in awe to be able to say this, but at this time my services are fully booked and I’m not currently open for taking on new clients. I still offer 1:1 social media coaching on a monthly basis, so reach out if you’re interested in hearing more about that.

NEW FEATURE ALERT ✨

Instagram has finally released the much anticipated Following and Favourites feed settings, bringing with it the return of chronological order 🎊

What does this mean for you as a user? 🤔

It means you are able to select to view posts from who you’re following based on when they were posted, not based on what the algorithm thinks you want to see OR view posts only made by your favourites list, created by you.

What does this mean for your audience/clients? 🧐

This means they’re able to do the same. Encourage them to add your business to their favourites list, so they never miss one of your posts! ⭐️

As time goes on, this new feature will show it’s true colours when it comes to how viewing content via chronological order & favourites plays out for engagement, reach and other analytics.

In the meantime, hang in there. Keep creating and continue to get yourself out there!

On her account, after posting just TWO reels, she’s reached over 72% more eyes 👀

On mine, posting four new reels, I’ve reached over 1000% of new audiences! 🤯

It’s the freakin’ weekend baby! ✨

We all know social media never sleeps, so it can be easy to let it take up every last second of our days.

But it doesn’t need to be that way - here are my top tips for freeing up your weekend while still staying present and consistent online ⤵️

✅ Create a posting schedule (and stick to it! Use a scheduling program like Facebook Business Suite to autopost for you if you need to post of you “day off”)
✅ Batch create content to avoid scrambling to create something on the days you need to post and to plan ahead, helping you avoid eating up your weekends with content creation
✅ Set working days/hours, make them known to others and allow yourself to respect them as well
✅ Utilize “Do Not Disturb” - it can be difficult to resist those little notification bubbles. Set boundaries for yourself using your phone’s programming (it’s a real game changer)
