♾️ Project Launch: SaveMichif.ca ♾️

We’re proud to announce the launch of SaveMichif.ca, an interactive platform created to help preserve and revitalize the critically endangered Michif language.

At the heart of the project are beautifully illustrated flashcards (both physical and digital) designed to introduce children and families to Heritage Michif, helping spark early connections to culture and supporting language revitalization for future generations.

🌐 An interactive, culturally rooted design

Swank Business Solutions was honoured to contribute as the technical and creative team behind this initiative, building the website, developing the digital flashcards, performing the branding, and more.

This collaborative effort was powered by Prairie Sky Press and made possible through partnerships with the Michif Languages Department at the MMF, Pemmican Publications, Prairie Sky Books, Canadian Heritage, and Elder Norman Fleury.

📦 Flashcards are available now at SaveMichif.ca or in person at Prairie Sky Books (871 Westminster Ave, Winnipeg). Each purchase includes both the physical and digital sets.

🤝 Plus, a portion of proceeds from each sale will be donated to several Métis Locals, directly supporting community-led cultural initiatives.

We’ve recently renovated our website, and we are very happy about the final result! We have refreshed our website multiple times since the inception of our company, even though it is a complex process. It is critical for our brand to evolve as our team gains experience and sharpens its skills year after year.

Some new features on our website include:

● Improved overall Design and User Experience.
● Addition of ‘Our Values page’, featuring Michif titles for each value to highlight Swank’s Metis heritage and community commitment.
● Addition of a Procurement page, signifying our experience and capacity to take on Government contracts.

Today is National Indigenous Languages Day - a reminder of the importance of revitalizing and preserving Indigenous languages. Language is more than words; it carries culture, history, and identity.

For those of you who don’t know, Swank Business Solutions is an Indigenous-owned business, Digital Marketing and Technology company based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

With the news of Trump’s Tariffs kicking in yesterday, our team at Swank has started to review the software and tech that we source in our own operations. If there are strong Canadian or International tools that we can replace with our existing American solutions, we are in the process of replacing them.

For everyone in our network who wants to do their part in supporting Canadian-businesses and buying locally, we’ve created a list of popular softwares and technologies with mainstream American solutions, Canadian alternatives, and International alternatives.

Our team at Swank would like to wish everyone a Happy Louis Riel Day!

Louis Riel (1844-1885) was the leader of Métis Nation, and is now known as the ‘Father of Manitoba’. Riel was instrumental in negotiating the Manitoba Act (1870) to bring Manitoba into confederation, while protecting Métis, Religious, Language, and Education rights for all Manitobans.

Riel was unjustly sentenced in July of 1885 in Regina, for his role in the Northwest Resistance. Riel was sentenced with treason and was executed under a British statute from 1351. There were no Métis or Francophone jurors in his trial, along with a politically appointed judge from the Federal Government.

Regarding his actions in the Northwest Resistance, Riel said:

“I am more convinced everyday that without a single exception I did right. And I have always believed that, as I have acted honestly, the time will come when the people of Canada will see and acknowledge it.”

As a Métis-owned business, our team at Swank acknowledges Riel’s sacrifices, and embodies his vision within our own company values.
