Van is finally in his forever home with his new cow family👏❤️🫶🙏🎊
It was a very busy first day meeting his new friends and family, and even having a much needed hoof trim💚 Van has been living without other cows for companionship so we didn’t worry about quarantining him. He was able to join some of his herd right away👏
After a long day, exploring, Van lied down peacefully with his new family of Elise, Archie, Levi, Jumbo, Daisy and Beatrice. In one word, he is very content🥰

Van is a six year old “pasture puppy” Holstein steer who has had a lot of turmoil in his short life including being taken from his mother at birth, watching his brother be sent to auction and five different homes💔😭
Very few Holstein Steers, or any steer for that matter, make it to six years of age so Van is very special. But that also means he requires very special care including hoof trims, veterinary care and special feed. Van needs to be moved to Sanctuary.

We know we’ve asked our supporters for a lot of help recently with so many Animals in need. Van will be our last save for 2026 and for the near future sadly. Archie, one lucky little baby boy calf is safe! 🥹❤️‍🩹
We learned of a group of calves who were to be sold at auction. Apparently, there was a likely chance they would end up in Alberta. One driver told us many “dairy” babies are being bought in Manitoba and transported to Quebec for the veal industry as MB “prices” are apparently lower. This little guy was the farmer’s son’s favourite so we had a chance to save him unlike all the other little calves we had to leave behind😭😭💔💔It was heartbreaking. We gently placed Archie in the backseat of our truck. He was in a little cage alone where he had been his whole life after being taken from his Mom at birth in the Dairy. Sorrow will have to be for another day when I’m alone with my thoughts and remember all the individuals we saw but couldn’t save😭
We are so grateful for all the support we received for Elise, Beatrice and little Levi. Elise and Beatrice remain in critical condition with our vet returning again today.
At this time we need baby bottles and calf milk replacer @ $100 per bag. I need to get to thank you’s in the next couple days but we have one more rescue for 2026 this Saturday. Stay tuned! He’s a special boy!

You did it!! 🎉❤️‍🩹
Beatrice, formerly “422”, is now safely in our Sanctuary where she is no longer Something, she is Someone❤️‍🩹💚🙏
Her condition is so frail and what is alarming is how low to the ground her udder hangs-her hooves are so long which results in her stepping on her back teat and bleeding💔💔 We’ll have our vet team out to assess her asap and determine what we can do to help with her comfort. When she arrived she was very excited to go into the barn, drink and lie down from her journey.
We are so grateful for everyone’s support which makes rescues like Beatrice’s possible. Last total we are only $360 short of our goal. Congratulations Victoria on your sixth year Vegan anniversary which we are proud to say all started when Victoria first visited and met the hens from our largest battery caged hen rescue in 2020🥲 Rescue, Advocate, Educate, Repeat💖

Happy Birthday to Ryan who keeps everyone nourished, watered and clean at the LRB🎂🎉🩵
Even today on his birthday you can find Ryan busy helping our Sheep Shearer and learning some tricks on hoof trimming💖
Then there’s new hay to put away from our two hay deliveries. Not to mention Elise’s hoof care! At the end of the day was a delicious vegan cake from Sweet Sensations
Thank you Ryan for all your hard work and best wishes on your birthday and all year round. We know it’s not always easy for you but we are proud of the person you are caring for all the LRB Residents🙏💖🎂

3 am and I join Daisy and Jumbo in the meadow. She is mothering him as usual🥲
It’s beautiful to watch but at the same time brings tears to my eyes as I know Daisy’s arthritis is worsening with this colder weather. She is preferring to be outside at night rather than in the barn. So for now we keep a close watch and do our best to keep her comfortable. In the meantime, they have each other🙏❤️‍🩹

When we first saw little baby Levi, he was in a tiny cage alone unable to run and play. He had been taken from his Mama after birth so humans could have the milk intended for him💔😭
We saw many, many calves that sad day. It’s such a joy to see Levi run free the way all animals are meant to and all under the watchful eye of his Mom whom he’s been reunited with thanks to you❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
But our heart always aches for those left behind💔

We can’t get enough of Baby Levi and Mama Elise💖🥰😍
We saved Mama from a dairy in critical condition and reunited her with her little boy.
This song is so inspirational to us-Love really does win. It’s what The Little Red Barn does best-giving faith, love and hope to those in need. But we don’t do it alone-with special thanks to my family, you our generous supporters, wonderful volunteers, incredible vet and farrier teams, all working together to make a difference in the lives of animals in need like Elise and Levi. Thank you🙏
