CBC News reports the NDP is proposing legislation that would require MPs who switch parties after an election to either seek a new mandate through a byelection or sit as an Independent until the next election.

The proposal follows five MPs crossing the floor to join Mark Carney's Liberals in just five months.

ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੇ ਇਲੀਨਾਇਜ਼ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮੈਕਲੀਨ ਕਾਉਂਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੋਕੇਨ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ 30 ਸਾਲਾ ਜੋਬਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (ਟਰੱਕ ਡਰਾਇਵਰ) ਨੂੰ 75 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ 28 ਮਈ 2026 ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।

ਮਾਮਲਾ ਕੀ ਹੈ?
ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 2025 ਵਿਚ ਇਲੀਨਾਇਜ਼ ਸਟੇਟ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਇੰਟਰਸਟੇਟ 74 ਤੇ ਲੈਰਾਏ ਨੇੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਟਰੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਿਆ।
ਟਰੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਭਗ 234 ਪੌਂਡ (ਕਰੀਬ 106 ਕਿਲੋ) ਕੋਕੇਨ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਕੀਮਤ 10.6 ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਡਾਲਰ (ਕਰੀਬ 100 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ) ਸੀ।

ਮਾਰਚ 2026 ਵਿਚ ਜਿਊਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਟਰੋਲਡ ਸਬਸਟੈਂਸ ਟ੍ਰੈਫਿਕਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਅਨਲਾਅਫੁਲ ਪੋਜ਼ੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਦ ਇੰਟੈਂਟ ਟੂ ਡਿਲੀਵਰ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ।
ਜੱਜ ਵਿਲੀਅਮ ਯੋਡਰ ਨੇ 75 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਤਾਏ 407 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੈਡਿਟ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ 75% ਸਮਾਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਕਲੀਨ ਕਾਉਂਟੀ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੋਕੇਨ ਬਰਾਮਦਗੀ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਟਰੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਗਾਰਬੇਜ ਬੈਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਛੁਪਾਈ ਗਈ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੀ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ (K-9) ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਲਰਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

ਜੋਬਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਟ੍ਰੱਕਿੰਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਰੱਗ ਮਿਊਲ (ਨਸ਼ਾ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਸੀ।

21-year-old Cameron James Prosper has been sentenced to 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the senseless, unprovoked 2021 killing of Indian international student Prabhjot Singh Katri in Nova Scotia.

Accessories Dylan Robert Macdonald and Marcus Michael Dennis were also sentenced to 2 years each for their roles after the fact. While the court has closed the case, Katri's family says 9 years will never be enough to make up for the bright future that was stolen from him. 🍁🕊️
