SO HERE'S THE THING ....
I am introverted - even if you know the social me, trust me, I like to be alone and like to speak to no one. If I'm social with you, you found a secret hack. I don't like attention, and as an author and small business owner, that creates a huge struggle for me. Even before this journey, I struggled with imposter syndrome and the idea of "I'll never be able to do..."
There are 3 specific things I thought I'd NEVER be able to accomplish, but I always wanted to.
1. WRITING A BOOK:
I've written 4 books (2 published), while I never intended to ever write a children's book... it happened. I did it. I always thought if I did write a book, it would be a fantasy novel (still working on that!) Honest Holly came from some random idea somewhere in my head when I was stuck on my novel. Your goal might not start exactly how you want. And dont rely on motivation; it can help, but you have to constantly do the work.
2. PUBLISHING A BOOK:
Growing up, indie publishing was not a thing. At least not talked about. If you managed to have your project "printed," it was usually 1 or 2 copies. And it doesn't have to have the "ick" factor. Yes, sometimes self-publishing gets a bad rap because their book wasn't edited or didn't have a professional design their cover. I published Honest Holly on my own without a traditional OR hybrid publisher. I made the decision to spend countless hours googling, reading, watching videos, and networking, trying to learn everything I could about publishing, and about indie pub world.
3. STARTING A BUSINESS:
So, I always liked the idea of starting/owning a business - Dragon's Den was pretty popular growing up. The thought was, "I wish I had a cool idea to..." Especially with indie publishing, you automatically get thrown into the business world (if you actually want to sell your books). I didn't realize my big idea was literally writing my ideas onto pages. Then, the other things followed. Insert Slogan here: "It all begins with an idea"
