Some roads feel longer when life is heavy.
But some people pedal through anyway, even when the world says the dream is too far, too expensive, too impossible.

Patrick A. Zapues, a youth from Balucuc who grew up watching his parents fight for life every day. A boy who once thought college wasn’t in the cards.

Then came a spark of hope β€” the DHVSU-Apalit Campus opened, and suddenly a door he thought was closed shifted open again.
But the journey wasn’t simple.
Classes were in Sampaloc. Home was kilometers away.
Pamasahe? Too costly.
Rice came first.

So Patrick made a choice: fix the old bicycle using help from the MJDT Educational Assistance, and ride.
Every. Single. Day.

Two hours on the road.
Under the sun, under the rain, sometimes pushing a broken bike through mud.
Many days with no baon.
Every trip powered only by determination, faith, and the dream of lifting his family’s future.

Four years of this.
Four years of pedal strokes mixed with prayer.
Four years of proving that poverty slows you, but it doesn’t define you.

And now?
He walks across the stage with a certificate that speaks louder than every struggle he kept hidden:
Summa cm laude.
Bachelor of Elementary Education, General Education major.

To every student biking, walking, sacrificing quietly… this win is yours as well.
Patrick shows us that even the farthest dream can be reached, one determined day at a time.
