🐰We’ve had lots of nighttime killer bunnies lately. But this bear is MUCH bigger! (15 minutes ago)

The day break calm surprised me, so I jumped in the kayak before the gang woke up for the day. It was early morning and hazy, but it smelled so good out in the islands. I wish I could capture that for you.

I tried to capture a 'Breakfast Club' of eagles enjoying a fish that some animal was 'sharing'. It was still early morning and the pics are kind of grainy... But at least you're joining me right!

The baby beavers were mewing in the lodge as Mom (or Dad) made a short appearance on top of the lodge.

Here's a few pictures from the paddle. Happy Long Weekend Everyone!!

Everyone can use a touch of whimsical on a smoky Lake of the Woods Day.

Yup, you're seeing correctly. We have a giraffe sanctuary. You will appreciate that there is plenty of space to roam around unhampered by stalking Serengeti cheetahs.

Took a lot of poor bird photos today. So I played with the Apple editing tools. I had fun improving the 'look' over my morning coffee. (LOL.. birds move too quickly!). It's about the limit of my creativity, but it feels so artistic. 😎

It was an evening paddle as the smoke from forest fires diminished. I love the look of the rock and wood.

Loons are fickle. On one day, I’ll paddle toward them, and they say, “no thank you” diving beneath the water to emerge a speck across the bay. Other days, I’ve been lucky to have them pop up right beside me. Once, mates even seemed to choreograph a dance in front of me. It was a gorgeous experience…

Last night, we saw a dozen loons together (which was a first for us). Then as they got closer to our evening drink on the dock, they decided to go a little ‘loony’. My iPhone video actually gets more fun as you watch it.

Can anyone explain their behaviour? , ,

Silly loons!

New info: A group of loons is called an 'asylum'.
Also, the choreography I saw a couple years ago is actually called a 'water dance' and it was likely two males peacefully checking each other out.

I like this picture. The sun was just coming up as I was crossing the bay. I’ve met up with deer and beaver in the water, had fish jump scare me, but this is my first time seeing a snake doing a long swim to the islands. Maybe a bird dropped it from the air?

I have to admit, it took a little following, BUT I WAS careful not to stress it. Not easy paddling with both hands, the kayak moving, the snake swimming, and with whatever I have left, grabbing my precious camera, to focus and shoot!

I love my Dean, but we certainly don’t love all the same things. For example, FINALLY after a year of jump scaring my typically brave husband, this beautiful garter snake allowed me to take its picture. I guess you could call us nose-to-nose, as I lay on my stomach only a couple feet away to snuggle in and take the shots.

Last year, our cabin snake shed her skin at the typical sunny spot by the stairs. Healthy snakes typically shed their skin in one full piece, and do this a few times a year. They shed as their skin grows, and this shedding can also rid them of parasites, should they have any hitchhikers. Ever wish you were a snake… discarding old skin for new would be AWESOME! … but the cosmetic and skin care industry wouldn’t stand for it likely!

Last Minnow Building Post 5 of 5. The finishing touches went very quickly. After hundreds of hours, we were eager to get her in the water to see if she floats! Of course she did. Good work my amazing husband!
