I've never taken a picture of a belted kingfisher. If you've seen the rascals, you know why.. They are SO fast. I chased this pair along the shores of a long island for twenty minutes. Finally, one decided to grace my presence long enough for me to grab my camera. Not award winning but it's my first! ,

I liked this post. I’d like to also have a beautiful picture of all the good that individuals are doing. Let’s all plant a ‘garden’ today and offer good path impacts.

Birds leave footprints. Turtles leave trails. Crabs leave their own unique paths. Humans leave something far more lasting: an impact.

Every choice, every action, and every piece of waste leaves a mark on this world. We are not just passing through nature. We are responsible for what we leave behind.

Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora).

Today I saw two otters, a great blue heron, and a bald eagle. While all exciting finds for me, it’s my guess that the dozen clusters of the aptly named ‘ghost pipe or death plant’ will be my most prized photo find of 2026.

I’ve always wanted to see this plant; this perennial that has no chlorophyll; this flower that is parasitic to the fungi in the forest soil that shares nutrients with the trees around it. Honestly, it’s all I want to read about or talk of today! So yup, I’ll probably be offering another Indian Pipe post in the next few days. 😊. , , , ,
