During my first boat ride on LOTW, my father-in-law instructed that it was common courtesy to wave as one passed other boaters. I took that direction and applied it. However, fewer boaters acknowledge that they see me. It’s actually tricky offering a quick wave when holding my paddle, but I typically try to wave or nod.

This fall I decided to do some research. Almost no one acknowledged me in the kayak. In fact the last three fishing boaters didn’t seem to even want to say hello as I passed within ten feet of their boat. In all three instances, I was already following the shore line, so they knew as they stopped to fish that I would be coming by in short order.

So what are your thoughts? What are your boating practices? What are you seeing out there on your waters? Should I keep waving? ,

Minnow is now hibernating and Charlotte is ready for the last couple paddles. It's cold and I slid to my butt hurrying down the frosty dock. I know it's not good practice, but I'm wearing an old fleece over my life jacket. I'm also sporting a neck warmer, second set of pants, and a headband. Next year I'll have to purchase a jacket that does all things; wind, rain, cold protection and has stretch... But now, I'm happy.

So many birds have departed. The lake is becoming quieter. Luckily, I was entertained by these super cute otters yeste...

So many birds have departed. The lake is becoming quieter. Luckily, I was entertained by these super cute otters yesterday. The white necked one is either the leader or the troublemaker. I found the nine or ten river otters gobbling up 'tasties', when it rubber necked and elongated out of the water to figure out what I was. They let me watch them twice as I followed them into the reeds. , ,

South wind gusts of 50 today and I’m feeling lazy. Tomorrow I’ll paddle. Today, I’m just getting out of bed and it’s nearing nine. I’m still in love with this misty morning experience. Hopefully I can kayak into the fog one more time this fall. ,

Ooo he (or she) is getting mighty plump. Just ambled past our back porch. But I was kayaking and Dean was in a meeting, so we didn’t get to view the real show. 😌
