Our face when we open Manitoba’s first ground-level virtual production studio: 😎

In case you haven’t already heard: we partnered with to open .xr. The response at our launch last Wednesday has been astounding.

Virtual production is a new approach to filmmaking; crews can shoot any “location” on an LED wall, giving Manitoba productions flexibility, control, and quick turnaround times.

What got us most excited? Watching local producers, agencies, and creatives see how we’re keeping budgets, talent, and opportunities right here — all while helping the province compete globally.

We designed AVRO XR specifically for the work happening here: commercials, film & TV, corporate videos, tourism campaigns, and more. Ground-level access means no more logistical headaches for filming car shots.

This launch is just the beginning, and we’re excited to be part of the future of production in Manitoba!

It’s not everyday you fly across the world to have a signing ceremony with LG in Korea ✈️🇰🇷

We are thrilled to share that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LG Electronics. The signing ceremony, held during the 2025 Canadian Creative Industries Trade Mission to East Asia, represents years of partnership and a shared vision for the future of virtual production.

This milestone is the result of years of collaboration: showcasing LG’s MAGNIT LED tiles at InfoComm 2023; visiting LG during our first Team Canada Trade Mission to South Korea in 2024; hosting LG at CoPilot HQ in Winnipeg in 2024.

In our tight-knit virtual production industry, building strong relationships is everything. This formalized partnership drives innovation forward and strengthens our ability to serve clients through our network of trusted technology partners.

Back for round 2 🇰🇷🇯🇵

We’re back to rep Canadian creatives internationally, this time at the 2025 Canadian Creative Industries Trade Mission to East Asia! After a successful Trade Mission to South Korea in 2024, we’re excited to continue developing the strategic partnerships forged on that first visit.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll have the opportunity to build relationships with South Korean and Japanese partners and showcase our work in the virtual production, XR, and AI industries in:
Seoul
Busan
Tokyo
Osaka

Some highlights from the itinerary:

🎤 A stop at the Canada Pavilion at the World Expo 2025, where co-founder will be speaking on an AI & Creative Industries panel alongside of , Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer at , and Paul Ruskay of Studio X. He’ll also be showcasing our flagship AI tool, FlightDeck.

🎞️ A trip to the Busan (via the bullet train!!) to check out the Busan Cinema Center, home of the .

🗾 A final gala at the Embassy of Canada to Japan, in Tokyo to wrap up the trade mission.

Behind the scenes of “Reflections,” a brand film we created in partnership with The Dream Factory ☁️

The Dream Factory has been a close partner and client of ours since we first started off as a small video production company in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown alongside each other, always looking for meaningful ways to offer support and help share their incredible work with the community.

“This was a rare opportunity for CoPilot to mix our commercial work with our love for narrative filmmaking,” said director Jordan Johnsen.

Many of our creative decisions (including lighting, colour, and filming angles that required balancing an camera on top of a 10-foot ladder) were intentionally made to convey the hope and warmth The Dream Factory works to share with families every day.

Thank you to for the trust they placed in our team to help tell this story and for the cast & crew that helped bring it to life.

And that’s a wrap on NAB 2025 for the CoPilot Crew! Here are some highlights from the past week:

➡️ Our crew collabed with for their booth, showcasing our 3D environments on their LED panels

➡️ Co-founders .mackay & also hosted a panel at AOTO Electronics with of / & of VP Land about the future of ICVFX for content creators

➡️ Later, Austin & Reid chatted with .gallier at -syslab about CoPilot’s growth and the virtual production industry’s trajectory with exciting technologies like the StarTracker Mini and CoPilot’s FlightDeck

➡️ Our communications & media specialist won a set of Solidcom C1 Pro wireless intercom headsets — which we’re very excited to start using on set

➡️ The crew checked out and tried some of the coolest new creative tech, including:

-syslab’s StarTracker Mini
’s URSA Cine Immersive Camera
’s Ocellus tracking system
XGRIDS’s LixelStudio

➡️ And of course we made sure to catch up with our friends Sammie Zhu, Nic Calla, , and more.

Overall, it’s been a great week of connecting and learning. Our biggest takeaway? Virtual production is finally becoming accessible to small/medium-sized commercial and corporate productions thanks to innovators in the space. And as always, we’re proud to be part of this shift in the industry.

We’ve been busy. Here’s what we’ve been up to in February:

We did a lot of our pre-vis and planning virtually in Unreal Engine to make sure shooting day went seamlessly. Using a 3D scan of the 2nd floor, we built a virtual replica for planning our shots and lighting. The result? Streamlined shoot days where we Stayed. On. Schedule.

Behind the scenes of our latest project with 👷‍♀️

If you’re from Winnipeg, you’ve probably seen FPDI’s LauncHER into Trades ads (that we shot!) all across Winnipeg buses and billboards. After the initial success of that campaign, the folks at FPDI asked us to create video ads for TV and social media. We believe that videos have the power to make an impact and, by partnering with FPDI, we are proud to amplify their mission to support women in the Trades.

And of course, this project would not be possible without the one and only gaffer extraordinaire, . The living room scenes were shot over the course of just a few hours, but João helped us use lighting to tell our character’s story, from morning to night.

For our latest project “Alien Mutiny,” we partnered with some of the leading names in the virtual production and filmmaking industries to show how their technology can be used in virtual production workflows for indie filmmaking.

The HTC VIVE Mars CamTrack system is one of the best camera tracking systems at an indie price-point. With three portable trackers, setup was a breeze. Big thanks to the one and only Wen for always pushing the VP industry forward.

We filmed on our 20 feet by 10 feet LED wall comprised of ROE BP2V2 LED Panels. These panels have become the golden standard in the VP industry and they are incredibly reliable and easy to assemble.

SmallRig’s Carbon Fibre Tripod, Camera Accessories & Follow Focus System took our cinematography to the next level. The Carbon Fibre Tripod’s light weight made it easy for us to move our camera when flipping our set.

Experiencing the development of AI powered motion capture over these past few years has been nothing short of incredible! In true indie fashion, we wanted to show off what creators can achieve with just an iPhone and the Move One iOS app. The single-camera motion capture, quick data processing, and convenient data transfer all saved us valuable time.

The Tessera line-up of LED processors is our choice not just for our own virtual production setups, but for our clients as well, thanks to it’s reliability and intuitive interface.

Blackmagic camera systems have been our go-to for years, but the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 is our powerhouse for virtual production, thanks to its ability to be genlocked.
