The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Organized Crime Unit is releasing images of individual suspects as part of our ongoing investigations into an extortion series targeting the South Asian community.

Investigators believe that the legal names associated with the individuals depicted may not correspond to the names by which they are known within their local communities, within Canada, or within their countries of origin. Members of the public are encouraged to provide any information that may assist law enforcement in the continued investigation(s), including the identification of individuals believed to be involved in criminal networks associated with extortion-related violence.

The photos are being released after a review and assessment by the CPS under Sec 13 (1)(a) of the Protection of Privacy Act or Sec 13 (1)(cc) of the Protection of Privacy Act.

The Winnipeg Police Service has launched a modernized Bicycle Patrol Program to strengthen proactive policing citywide. Trained officers will use new e-bikes, along with mountain bikes, to increase visibility and improve access to neighbourhoods, pathways, parks, public gathering spaces, and special events. Twenty-five officers have completed specialized bicycle patrol training and will be deployed across all four police districts. The program is intended to enhance public safety by providing an additional operational tool for reaching areas that are difficult for traditional patrol vehicles, while maintaining a highly visible police presence. Officers will remain fully operational and can support calls for service, major events, and riverbank operations during the May–October season.

Winnipeg: Councillor Janice Lukes announced she will not seek re-election in Winnipeg’s 2026 civic election after 12 years representing South Winnipeg and Waverley West. On Social Media.

First elected in 2014, she later ran in the newly formed Waverley West ward in 2018 and was acclaimed, then won 80% of the vote in 2022. Lukes highlighted her work tackling the student housing crisis, securing funding for recreation and aquatics plans, expanding fire and paramedic services, improving active transportation and road safety, and strengthening value for taxpayers. She will remain in office until October 2026 and supports a smooth leadership transition.
