Hide Tanning season is almost here! We produced this film with the Tlicho Government to capture some of the ways caribou and moose hide tanning is done in their region. As narrator Janelle Nitsizo explains, techniques will vary, even between different Tłı̨chǫ communities and families. We encourage those interested in learning to respectfully watch, listen, and ask questions to hide tanners who may know, and to always remember that there is more than one way to do things. Patience, care and an eagerness to learn will help you achieve your goal.

It’s A-OK in Łutsël K’é! Here for the day, working with the Thaidene Nëné crew. This fake video is made from a real photo. Doesn’t actually look like this here, but I really did get to drive their brand-new side-by-side through town. My deadly guide, Adrian Nataway, was showing me around and keeping me from running away and driving all the way home to Yellowknife 😂 I was recording a 360 video of the interior, but only got a picture of me behind the wheel in the parking lot. I loaded that pic into Google’s AI called Gemini and said, “Put me out on the tundra,” and that’s what it made. Not too shabby! Anyway, I’m late for a meeting… Thanks to Iris and the Guardians for inviting me!
