CITIZEN CALLS FOR REMOVAL OF MINISTRIES FROM AROB NATIONAL MP'S, CITING NEED FOR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION TO INDEPENDENCE

Bougainvillean citizen, Anthony Kaima Angelus has called on the 11th National Parliament to honour its commitment to Bougainville and her people.
Speaking at the recent public consultations in Arawa last Thursday, Kaima proposed interventions for which, he said, are crucial for Bougainville to achieve desired post-referendum outcomes and fully materalise a pathway to independence.
In addressing the Bipartisan Parliamentary Committee on Bougainville Matters, Mr Kaima called for the removal of ministerial portfolios from Bougainville's national parliamentarians; the formulation of a Bougainville independence readiness budget underpinning all development programs and activities, and the establishment of tertiary institutions - a university and more colleges in/on Bougainville.
"We want independence. Independence will correct the mistakes of colonial masters, and bring long-lasting peace between PNG and Bougainville. There is no other road," he said.
Kaima urged the Pangu-led government to "remove, strip off ministries" stating it was necessary for national leaders to give undivided attention to Bougainville and concentrate on advancing Bougainville's pathway to self rule.
He claimed that there are conflicting demands, where serving ministers are required to focus much of their time on state affairs and implementation of national policies.
This, he suggested, often resulted in the perceived neglect of electorate concerns where national duties take precedence over provincial and district issues.
Kaima said given the timeframe leading into 2027, all national parliamentarians are obliged to "fully focus" on Bougainville and effectively serve as catalysts for the interests of the Bougainville people, in the national political arena.
He added that the PNG government should now develop a specific budget for independence readiness that is aligned to Bougainville's development priorities and overarching goals for self-determination.
"I ask the national government, if you have the heart for Bougainville. Panguna contributed to the development, to the independence of Papua New Guinea. I ask PNG, through you committees, create a separate budget. And help us.
"Build a university for us, more colleges. Please, our students will strive for excellence without fear or disturbances here," said Kaima.
He further acknowled Committee Chairman, Hon. Dr Allan Marat and Sir Puka Temu for traveling into Central Bougainville to lead community consultations.
"I thank our two senior statesmen for coming here to Arawa, I only wish the other younger members of the committee were present but I believe, I have trust in you two that you will carry the voice and hearts of Bougainvilleans back with you to national parliament," stated Kaima.
