Zambia’s political tensions have escalated following the arrest and formal charging of opposition leader Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu with treason.
Mundubile, who finished second in Zambia’s August 13 presidential election, had disputed the election results and intended to challenge the outcome in court. His supporters have rejected allegations of an armed insurgency, while authorities say the case involves a national security threat.

Tanzania’s Vice President Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi has resigned.

His departure takes effect on September 4, leaving the question of who will succeed him and what the appointment could mean for Tanzania’s political direction.

Under the Constitution, President Samia Suluhu Hassan must appoint a new Vice President within 14 days of the office becoming vacant, subject to parliamentary approval.
