Virgil Abloh, the iconic creative Director, Louis Vuitton's first Black artistic director and Founder and CEO of Off-White, died Sunday 28th Nov, 2021 of “a rare, aggressive form of cancer” called cardiac angiosarcoma, according to a post from his verified Instagram account, a health issue that was unknown to the public until his death. He was 41.

At Louis Vuitton, he brought in a younger demographic, with menswear collections that blurred the lines between high fashion and streetwear, as well as pushed artistic boundaries and challenged gender norms. His ever silent impact on the young generation in terms of fashion is prolific, from the UK streets and the whole grime movement to African cities like cape town Nairobi, Lagos and Accra. A sparkly "embroidered bib" he designed, for example, became an instant talking point when it was worn by Timothee Chalamet to the Golden Globes in 2019. Other versions were donned by Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman.

Famous for cross-collaborations, one of Abloh's greatest legacies was his contribution to the world of footwear -- setting the standard for innovative sneakers, in edition after edition of Off-White x Nike designs.

He was also big in the world of music, and as a prolific DJ, played at music venues around the world. As a longstanding collaborator of Kanye West, now known as Ye, he worked as a creative director for the rapper's design agency Donda, and designed some of Ye's album covers. As an artist and furniture designer, he collaborated with the likes of Mercedes Benz on an art concept car and IKEA on a coveted range aimed at people moving into their first homes.

Tributes poured in overnight for the late designer, who was one of fashion's most powerful Black men, in an industry that notoriously lacks diversity. Harlem couturier Daniel Day, known as Dapper Dan, spoke to the point in an Instagram post, writing "Virgil's life was a testament to how much Black Lives Matter by showing what black lives are capable of.

"His march took him to the top of luxury fashion. Virgil started out as a foot soldier but died a general."

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda signed on Saturday three agreements on bilateral cooperation after a meeting between the two heads of state in Goma, the capital of northeastern DR Congo's North Kivu province.
These agreements were signed during the visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who met with his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi in Goma on Saturday.
The first agreement signed concerns the promotion and protection of investments, the second one focuses on the avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion between the two countries. The third is a memorandum on gold mining cooperation.
At a joint press conference at the end of the meeting that led to these agreements, the two heads of state appreciated the good collaboration that has existed for several years between the two countries and their people.
According to Felix Tshisekedi,"It is time to experience the other side of sharing peace, love and economic fraternal exchanges between our two countries"
We signed a number of agreements. I believe this is just the beginning. There are many areas that we are going to come to, in which we can cooperate to build a solid relationship, but also bases for cooperation between our two countries." added Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda.
It was an occasion for DRC to reiterate its interest to join the East African Community (EAC), a decision that is generating reactions in Goma.
On Friday, the two presidents had a two-hour meeting in Rubavu, Rwanda, during which they discussed several issues, including security in the region, the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano in May, and in particular Kinshasa's integration into the East African Community.
The two presidents have held many meetings in recent months, particularly during international summits. Before the Rubavu meeting, the two leaders met face-to-face on May 17 in Paris, on the sidelines of the international summit for the financing of African economies.

Chauvin killed Floyd in May 2020 by kneeling on his neck for more than 9 minutes despite the man's cries of 'I can't breathe.' The incident sparked nationwide and global protests and conversations around racism. Ahead of sentencing, Floyd family attorney Ben Crump said,

Adding that 'There was nothing typical about what Derek Chauvin did in torturing George Floyd to death. So we don’t expect it to be a typical sentence. It needs to be a sentence that sets a new precedent for holding police officers accountable for the unjustifiable killings of Black people in America.'⁠

The prospect that a police chief would take the witness stand against a fellow officer is exceedingly rare. But there was the chief of the Minneapolis Police Department during the trial proceedings, condemning the actions of Derek Chauvin, the officer charged with murdering George Floyd, as wrong by every imaginable measure.

“To continue to apply that level of force to a person proned out, handcuffed behind their back — that in no way, shape or form is anything that is by policy,” said the chief, Medaria Arradondo. “It is not part of our training. And it is certainly not part of our ethics or

our values.”

This week’s World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA) is an opportunity for government leaders to engage on the state of global, African and South African economies, says Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.

WEFA will take place in Cape Town from Wednesday until Friday, this week, under the theme of ‘shaping inclusive growth and shared futures in the fourth industrial revolution’.

“It is not a conference where we take resolutions; it’s not a consultative meeting,” he said.
