In the heart of the Beni region, in North Kivu province, Jambo Radio organized (May 2026) its first two-day event as part of the project “Strengthening Indigenous Voices in the Congo Basin in the DRC” with financial support from its partner Cultural Survival.
This gathering led to the creation of a listeners’ club bringing together more than 25 members of local and Indigenous communities, providing a space for collective listening, civic dialogue, and free expression on issues of social and environmental justice.
At the same time, 6 young community storytellers, also from local and Indigenous communities in the region, received basic training in community storytelling and podcasting to strengthen their ability to share their own realities in their own words, voices, and experiences.
In a context marked by extractivism, violent conflicts, and injustice which negatively impact the lives and livelihoods of these vulnerable communities, this initiative empowers them to tell their own stories.
