The Tripura High Court has directed the state government and the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), to expedite the recruitment process for more than 3,300 vacant teaching and headmaster posts across government schools.

The directives were issued by a division bench comprising the Chief Justice and Justice Biswajit Palit while hearing a suo motu PIL concerning the state’s school education system. The court ordered immediate recruitment for 1,116 PG Teacher vacancies, directed authorities to fill 2,193 Graduate Teacher vacancies, and instructed TRBT to complete the selection process for 700 Graduate Teacher posts for which examinations have already been conducted.

The court also directed the government to initiate recruitment for 162 Headmasters and 100 Assistant Headmasters in Higher Secondary Schools, along with 304 Headmaster posts in High Schools. The bench expressed concern that the shortage of teachers and administrative staff is adversely affecting students and warned against further delays.

The state government and TRBT have been directed to submit compliance and action-taken affidavits before the next hearing scheduled for September 21.
