Water rescue for child in river (WILL UPDATE POST AS INCIDENT PROCEEDS)
Area of N. Water St and Andrews St...reported as: mother reporting her child fell into the Genesee River
-5-yr old male
-after he fell in, mother believes he went over the falls, but that has not been confirmed
-child is wearing a blue jacket, jeans
-RPD, RFD and Scuba Squad/Water Rescue responding for a rescue assignment
-RPD checking all the area bridges
-all traffic being blocked in the area
-RPD requesting RG&E to shut down/slow down the water flow
-also requesting a drone and helicopter
-RPD officer has sustained a leg laceration during the investigation and is being administered medical aid
-a shoe was located near the water, near logs by the bridge, unknown if it's the childs
UPDATE: multiple witnesses confirm seeing a person go over the falls a few minutes ago
-5:18 pm, RG&E is slowing down the water
-5:35 pm, RFD putting a raft in the water now
-5:40 pm, RFD has located a blue jacket in the water near the Genesee Brewery; nobody is in the jacket
-jacket has been recovered and will be delivered back to RPD
6:00 pm, RG&E stating they can no longer hold the water back and will be releasing it to normal flows
6:22 pm UPDATE: Positive ID on the jacket that was located in the water; it does belong to the child
-MCSO is checking the river near the area of Turning Point Park
-Drone is back up in the air after being brought down for new batteries
-helicopter is heading back to the base, they have searched the whole river with no success in locating the child
7:00 pm UPDATE: Sounds like the search may be being called off now. Boat is coming out of the water, RFD coming back to command post.
-the boat can't keep up with the current any longer
