Sometimes, the spotlight finds you when you least expect it.

I was invited as a panelist at the just-concluded , but when the keynote speaker was delayed, I was asked to step in and deliver the keynote speech.

Without a script, slides, or warning just my voice, my values, and the work I’ve put in over the years.

What followed was one of the most meaningful sessions I’ve ever delivered. We explored themes I’ve always spoken and written about:

🔹 Building a compelling personal brand

🔹 Finding clarity in your career journey

🔹 Showing up even when you don’t feel “ready”

One thing I pride myself in is being able to elevate the mood of my audience by having them engage in games. Of course, I brought this energy here.

To every student, young professional, and creative in that room, thank you for showing up with your questions, vulnerability, and energy. I saw a generation eager to lead, learn, and leave their mark.

And to anyone reading this: sometimes your next opportunity won’t wait for you to be “fully ready.” It’ll ask you to stand up anyway.

And that’s when you’ll realize you've been ready all along. You were just waiting for a stage.

Have a blessed week ahead

How to Tell Your Personal Story Without Oversharing or Sounding Messy

Are you worried about “oversharing” online? Here’s the rule I follow.

When I tell my clients to share their story, they often feel uncomfortable:

“Susan, I don’t want to put my whole life out there”
“I’m a private person”

And honestly, I get it - vulnerability feels risky.

Here’s the framework I teach:
Share from the scar, not the wound.

That means:
✅ Share what you’ve processed and learned from
❌ Don’t share what’s raw and unresolved

Example:
I talk about how I struggled with invisibility and low income early in my career.

But I don’t live-post every bad day or every rejection email.

Good storytelling =

- A relatable struggle
- A meaningful lesson
- A hopeful takeaway

And that’s what your story should embody.

Remember, you’re not just venting, you’re leading. So share stories with a lesson for your audience.

Curious what part of your story to share? Comment the word “STORY,” and I’ll send you 10 story prompt templates to begin

Someone is building a course, a webinar, or a mentorship program right now. And guess what?

They’re going to need case studies.

They’re going to name-drop examples.

They’re going to reference real-life creators, coaches, freelancers, professionals…

The question is: Will YOU be one of them?

When I was preparing content (curriculum) for my mentorship program recently, I needed examples, real people who were doing the work, showing up, building consistently.

So I went online. I used a few creators who had:

- Built solid digital identities
- Shown up repeatedly
- Packaged themselves in a way that made it easy to reference them

They became instant case studies in a room they had no idea they were being discussed in. Not because I knew them personally. But because they put themselves out there in a way that made them unforgettable.

That’s the goal

To be so visible, so clear, so intentional with your personal brand that when people are looking for a success story to spotlight, your name comes to mind.

✅How to Become a Future Case Study:
Here’s how you make yourself reference-worthy:

1. Show up consistently - not randomly.
Posting once every 3 weeks won’t cut it. Get a system. Pick 1–2 themes. Show up like you’re already being watched (because you are).

2. Document, don’t dramatize.
You don’t need a viral story. Just share your process. Talk about what you’re learning, testing, building. Let people watch the evolution.

3. Position yourself clearly.
“I help [X] do [Y] by [Z].” If people can’t describe what you do in one sentence, they won’t remember you, and they definitely won’t reference you. The link in my bio will lead you to a personal brand template that also has a bio rewrite template that you can use to describe what you do

Mentorship is draining… but I’ll do it again and again.

Today’s session left me mentally tired.
Over 2 hours of breaking things down…
✅ Shifting perspectives
✅ Explaining monetization pathways
✅ Answering deep, strategic questions
✅ Guiding every voice in the room

And even though I’m drained… I’m so excited.

Because I watched someone realize:

“Wait… I can actually make money doing this thing I love?”

I watched minds expand.
I saw clarity land.
And I gave assignments I know will unlock the next level.

This is what it means to build a personal brand that earns.
From eBooks to premium offers,
From “I don’t know what to sell” to “I now have 6 solid monetization ideas.”

That’s the work. That’s the win.

The Personal Brand Mentorship Program is not just content tips, It’s clarity, confidence, and cash flow.

I saw this fascinating post by Lade on LinkedIn so I thought to share it here (I enjoy reading Lade's newsletters).

This post reminds me of Rob Gray's "Great Brand Blunders"

It's an interesting compilation of marketing fails and what the brands could have done differently. I had a good laugh reading that book because some of those fails were genuinely funny.

The most hilarious one for me (in the book) was a brand that mistakenly added their competitor's contact number to their billboard ad 😂 😂. Imagine MTN using Glo's contact number as theirs 😂😂😂

Chowdeck isn't so bad for me, though I recognize the many other opportunities people highlighted in the comments section of the post like deliverance from sin etc. Maybe I'm allowing my love for their service and the brand cloud my judgment 🤷‍♀️

My favorite here is Chess in Slum - on-brand, minimalist, infused the theme for the season (the cross, sacrifice) with their visuals and "puzzle-like" especially because chess is all about thinking critically.
