The Nangol/gol or land diving, is a thrilling and ancient Melanesian tradition on the Southern part of Pentecost, an island in Vanuatu where men and boys, sometimes as young as seven, jump headfirst from a tower with only vines strapped to their ankles to break their fall. It's a rite of passage for young men, a fertility rite for a successful yam harvest, and a demonstration of bravery and strength. The ceremony involves a sacred space, ritual washing, prayers, and traditional dances and chants. 🌴
Come to Pentecost and enjoy the thrilling ritual and feel the chant echo through your ears as young men leap from raised platforms into the thin air to the ground 😳 I am born & raised here and have watched this ceremony since my childhood days yet everytime I watch this, I still scream whenever a diver jumped from the platform 😬🫣😄
