The Jamaica Constabulary Force continues its relentless pursuit in the dismantling of organised crime groups with the arrest of a businessman and a woman accomplice, following the seizure of 13 imitation rifles and an imitation pistol in White River, St. Mary on Saturday, September 13.
The arrests are linked to an ongoing multi-million dollar fraud investigation led by detectives from the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC). The two suspects are facing charges of breaching the Fi****ms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
C-TOC personnel, joined by members of the Specialized Operations Branch, were on operation between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., when a premises was searched and the imitation fi****ms were seized. The identities of the individuals in custody are being withheld pending further investigations.
Superintendent of Police Victor Barrett of C-TOC highlighted the significance of the arrests and emphasized the role of community partnership in the fight against crime.
“There are criminal groups intent on undermining the safety and stability of our communities. They will use imitation fi****ms as a deliberate tactic to intimidate citizens and commit crimes. It remains our duty to ensure they are removed from our streets and the perpetrators are brought to justice. We are urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support the police in disrupting criminal activities,” said Actg. SSP Barrett.
