BBA FIRE OUTBREAK

Dear Esteemed Members and Stakeholders of BBA Trading Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of an unfortunate incident that occurred in our market yesterday, Wednesday, 21st May 2025, after the close of business.

In the late hours of the evening, a fire outbreak affected a section of our market, causing damage to properties and merchandise

Upon receiving the distress call, the President of BBA, Chief Oscar Odogwu (Akuchinyelu N'Umunachi), immediately rushed to the scene alongside Members of BBA Security Team, Taskforce, and other concerned Stakeholders.

A prompt emergency call was placed to the Lagos State Fire Service by BBA President whose timely intervention, by God’s grace, helped bring the fire under control around 11:00 PM.

The exact cause of the inferno remains unknown. However, investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause and ensure necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

To all BBA Members who were affected by this unfortunate incident, please accept our deepest sympathy and solidarity during this trying time.

Moving forward, the leadership of BBA under Chief Oscar Odogwu will intensify efforts in creating awareness to promote fire safety awareness. Circulars and updates will be circulated across all BBA platforms, emphasizing the need for vigilance and safety consciousness in our business environment.

May this type of disaster never befall our community again

BBA: A CALL FOR REASONING

There is currently an ongoing inter- and intra-alignment and realignment within the leadership corridor of the Balogun Business Association (BBA), with individuals and groups forming camps for and against certain interests.

While it is fundamental for people to have personal ambitions and preferences, such ambitions must never override the collective interest of the larger BBA community. The very essence of leadership lies in the ability to subordinate personal gains to the common good.

In politics, it is normal to pursue personal goals, but such pursuits must be done responsibly. If one holds or has held an elected position, it is advisable to let one’s impact be felt and remembered through visible contributions, not through antagonism, entitlement mentality or covert opposition.

You cannot be a part of a government and simultaneously wage war against it; such double standards breed instability and erode trust.

The current atmosphere of peace in BBA is not accidental it is a product of shared sacrifice, dialogue, and leadership. This peace must not be threatened by selfish interests, entitlement mentality or misguided agitations. If there are internal disagreements, there are proper internal mechanisms and channels through which they should be resolved. Public confrontations or calculated media wars only serve to undermine the unity and progress achieved so far.

No man is perfect, just as no government is without its flaws. Still, if politics cannot unite us, it must not be allowed to divide us. Let it be known: no personal interest is greater than the peaceful coexistence of BBA members.

Those fanning the flames of discord must allow wisdom to prevail. The so-called gladiators in this unfolding political theatre must have a rethink. The legacy and progress of BBA are far too important to be sacrificed on the altar of personal entitlement.

Let all concerned return to the drawing board, recommit to peace, and place the interest of BBA above all else to have their scores settled the masses of BBA are not interested in this public show of shamelessness in the name of agitation for entitlement.

CHEERS TO MORE WIN & BOUNDLESS BLESSINGS

Today, I raise a glass of fine wine in celebration of a truly remarkable man—my friend, my brother, and a son of the rich soil of Igbo Ukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Hon. Nnamdi Edwin Okoye, (Nwa Chi Ya Na Agbalu Ogu) you are a man of grace, wisdom, and unwavering character.

Each time I see you, I’m reminded of your kind-hearted and generous mother. A woman of warmth and hospitality, she always welcomed me to Igbo Ukwu with open arms and treated me to sumptuous plates of rice and ofe akwu meals that were not just nourishing but filled with love and tradition.

On this special day, I celebrate not just the years you’ve lived, but the impact you’ve made. You matter.

May your path continue to shine brightly. May the grace that has brought you this far never depart from you.

YOU CAN'T MIX ACTIVISM WITH GOVERNANCE

Governance and activism operate on fundamentally different principles.

Once an individual accepts the call to serve in government, they relinquish the tools of activism for the instruments of statecraft.

It becomes not only inappropriate but also counterproductive for someone within the system to publicly engage in combative rhetoric against the same government they represent.

Doing so not only creates confusion among the public but also undermines institutional integrity and weakens governance structures.

Public office comes with the solemn duty of defending the collective interest through measured, constructive engagement. When grievances arise—about entitlements the proper course of action lies in internal channels and constitutional processes.

Grandstanding in on social media platforms serves only to erode public trust and foster disunity. It signals a lack of discipline and an unwillingness to uphold the sanctity of public service by such individuals

Those who are stoking this fire of internal rebellion must reconsider their actions. They risk not only their own credibility but also the stability and progress of the institution they serve.

Governance demands a higher level of maturity. The rules have changed; the responsibilities have shifted.

Let those entrusted with leadership act as reformers, not agitators, and remember that real change happens not with noise, but with strategy, sacrifice, and sincere dialogue.

PUBLIC NOTICE

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Business Association,the Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association (BBA) and the General Assembly of Balogun Business Association attention have been drawn to a "PUBLIC NOTICE" authored by Leonard Ogbonnia as Chairman and Secretary of Caretaker Committee respectively of Balogun BusinessAssociation published in the Daily Sun of Wednesday "UNAUTHORIZED AND ILLEGAL COLLECTION OF TOLLS AND UTILITY CHARGES FROM OCCUPANTS AND USERS OF BALOGUN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR TRADE FAIR COMPLEX AMUWO ODOFIN OFF BADAGRY EXPRESSWAY ,LAGOS STATE"

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the General Public particularly to members of Balcgun Business Association,Traders and occupants and users of the Association's International Centre for Commerce/ICC that a group of incumbent management Caretaker Committee of Anselm Dunu and Chief (Hon.) Leonard Ogbonnia the self-acclaimed and self-styled Chairman and Secretary of Caretaker Committee of Balogun Business Association respectively dissuading and discouraging members of the Association from payment of Utilty Bills to wit:

a) Electricity Levy
b) Security Levy
c) Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA)
d) International Centre for Commerce/ICC Ground Rent Levy

With intent to run aground the Association and by extension Balogun Business Association Market Complex within Trade Fair.

These persons led by Chief (Hon.) Anselm Dunu and falsehood, deception, concealment and confusion were very assumptive to the point of describing the Executive notwithstanding that the same Executive Council of reserved judgment of the Federal High Court in Suit No.FHC/L/CS/109B/2021 BETWEEN CHINYERE POLICE & ORS a subsisting judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction that has not been appealed against by anybody nor set aside by any court of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.

It has therefore become imperative the lies, falsehood, forgery, deception, concealment and confusion narratives that have been peddled for so long a time by Ogbonnia and their co-journey-men if left unaddressed semblance of truth as lies peddled repeatedly over and over again will usually tend towards a semblance of a true narrative to unsuspecting members of the public misrepresentation of facts, and deceit raised by the Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association (BBA) led by CHIEF TONY OBIH and CHIEF JONATHAN OKPALA, and others for obtaining a new Registration Certificate in the name of Balogun Business Association from the Corporate Affairs Commission after a thorough investigation by an Administrative Panel setup by the Registrar General confirmed these allegations. And by the operation of Act 2020,the Commission revoked the tainted so called new Certificate issued and dated the 3rd July 2018 which recognized CHIEF ANTHONY OBIH and CHIEF JONATHAN OKPALA as members of the Board of
Trustees of Balogun Business Association and upheld the validity of Balogun Business Association Certificated of which CHIEF ANTHONY OBIH and CHIEF JONATHAN OKPALA are not members of the Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association.

The decision of the Commission was communicated to the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Balogun Business referenced COM/SPM/2021/022. Copy of the said letter is hereunder attached for ease of reference.

By the letter,the Commission directed CHIEF OKECHUKWU EZIBE (a.k.a OKEY EZIBE) led Board of Trustees to constitute a Caretaker Committee that will conduct a general election for the AssociationCHIEF ALEX-OBI ODUNUKWE and others was constituted and the Committee pursuant to the directive conducted a general election into the various elective offices of the Association in June 2021.

The conduct of the election was duly monitored and supervised by delegates officers of the Association have taken Oath of office by the Judgment of the Honourable Justice A.O.Awogboro Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/1098/2021BETWEEN CHINYERE NWABUNIKE & ORS VS INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE & ORS.

However,in a deliberate move to thwart the Order of the Commission, CHIEF LEONARD OGBONNA, CHIEF ANSELM DUNU, TONY AKANECBU, FABIAN NWANKWO and others have by self-proclamation have Board of Trustees and those of the Executive Council of Balogun Business Association by parading themselves as members of the Caretaker Committee of Balogun Business Association.
Besides,they in alliance with CHIEF TONY OBIH have cling unto power. Nobody envies them for exploring their options through the court system if they feel aggrieved at judgment or order of a court of competent jurisdictionAbuja were they currently have three (3) subsisting suits to Federal High Court Lagos where they also have a couple of suits pending.

Meanwhile,in the midst of all this,as law abiding citizens,members of the Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association,we have maintained dignified distance from Association so as to avoid breakdown of law and order in the Association's Market Complex with the full knowledge the schemes of these imposters is to create a state of lawlessness, disorder and anarchy within the Balogun arm of the State Government to descend on the Market and for a complete shutdown of the Market Complex.

The Good People of Balogun Business Association and all stakeholders must take this ploy into cognizance. Most Business Association.These are men who under the pretext of "CTC" which they labeled themselves sold off the entire available land space within the Balogun Market complex running Billions of Naira which they have not care not a hoot if the Market Complex burns or is shut down indefinitely. Of course they will be the happier bunch if any of these untoward befell the Market Complex.

The members of the Executive Council and the cerified Association are not unmindful of the fact that there are families who can hardly feed except they come to the Market Complex to transact on daily basis.We are not also ignorance of the fact Balogun Business Association have kept millions of families together, moving and We have paid due consideration to these salient facts and decided to maintain a dignified silent in the midst of excrucialing cost of maintaining and keeping the Market there is a limit to docility and there should be a limit to rascality.

The members of the Executive Council and the Board of Trustees of Balogun Business Association have borne ANTHONY OBIH (a.k.a TONY BELL). CHIEF CHIEF ANSELM DUNU, TONY AKANEGBU, FABIAN NWANKWO who under the so called "CTC" People with concealment and confusions since 2021 have held Balogun Business Association Market Complex down but there is a time for everything set under the sun.

The time has come for all Traders, Stakeholders,and General Assembly members of Balogun Business Association and the good citizens of Nigeria who have stake or the other within the Balogun Market Complex to rise up and demand to take back their Market from the rapacious gluttons known as the "CTC" People. Atime to act is now.

It is either that every Trader at Balogun Market Complex Located at International Centre for Commerce/ICC Tradefair Complex Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos State ignore and completely call off the bluff of the greed-Caretaker Committee "CTC" and "PUBLIC NOTICE ADVERTORIAL OF 14TH FEBRUARY 2024" publishedin the Sun Newspaper and start paying the Utility Bills now or risk having the Market completely shutdown?

We are not ignorant of the way of the lovers of darkness who will demand for Barabbas and shout away with Jesus.Balogun Market Complex should be dear to Market Complex and we are not looking at hangers-on who have nothing to lose even if the Complex is damnified or burnt down tomorrow.
The members of the Executive Council and the certified Association at this juncture, deem it imperative to inform all Traders at Balogun Business Association Market Complex and the entire citizens of Nigeria and neighbouring countries to completely ignore the posturing NOTICE* published in the Sun Newspapers of 14th February 2024 as being nothing a ruse and a farce Association in particular and the GENERAL Public as awhole as there is nobody or organ of the Association "Caretaker Committee" or "CTC" led by certain Chief (Hon.)Anselm Dunu and Chief Leonard Ogbonnia as Chairman and Secretary respectively.
The true position of things in the Association is that the and power monger characters in the Association and their collaborators.
