Gaudy Boy From Latin "gaudium" meaning joy, Gaudy Boy is a new press publishing voices of Asian heritage that seek to delight readers.

From the Latin "gaudium" meaning joy, Gaudy Boy publishes Asian writing that seeks to delight readers. The name is taken from “Gaudy Turnout,” a poem by Singaporean author Arthur Yap, about his time abroad in Leeds, UK. Similarly inspired, Gaudy Boy brings literary works by authors of Asian heritage to the attention of an American audience. We are interested in publishing poetry, fiction, and crea

tive non-fiction of exceptional merit. Please query Jee Leong Koh at [email protected] with a book proposal.

Saturday saw the Singapore book launch of Memorial Club at Book Bar SG, where author Mozid Mahmud was joined by poet AK Zilani and scholar Nur Amali Ibrahim for an evening of lively readings and discussion. Did you know? This is Mozid's first overseas book launch and the first time Gaudy Boy presented a Bangladeshi author to a Singaporean audience. Check out the photos we took at this special book launch.

Introducing Mandy Moe Pwint Tu, the poet behind Gaudy Boy's upcoming poetry title, Fablemaker.

Originally from Yangon, Myanmar, Tu received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was the Hoffman-Halls Emerging Artist Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing.

Her collection follows a speaker who contends with her father’s untimely death, her country’s crisis, and her de facto exile to the United States. Through Burmese folklore, formal invention, and addresses to a “dear fellow fablemaker,” Tu strives to
imagine a self and a world that, after their devastation, recover.

Fablemaker will be published in September 2025 and is available for preorder now. https://singaporeunbound.org/gaudy-boy/fablemaker

In conjunction with Gaudy Boy’s November 2025 publication of Sharmini Aphrodite’s THE UNREPENTANT, SUSPECT is holding its 2nd flash fiction contest with a call for submissions inspired by the title of this bold story collection. We are looking for flash fiction of 100-150 words on the theme of unrepentance interpreted in any imaginative way. When should we repent and why don’t we? When should we not repent? What do we hope to obtain by not repenting? Integrity? Praise? Or just plain sustenance?

We're thrilled to share our newest poetry title, FABLEMAKER, out in September 2025.

Born out of a myriad of griefs in the wake of Myanmar’s violent return to military rule, FABLEMAKER alchemizes the pains of a fractured life into heart song.

Selected by Ng Yi-Sheng as the winner of the 2024 Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize, FABLEMAKER weaves together a troubled familial history and a national reckoning.

Join us for the Singapore Launch of Mozid Mahmud's novel MEMORIAL CLUB; a bilingual English and Bangla event featuring Mozid Mahmud, AK Zilani, and Amali Ibrahim.

Saturday, July 12, 7.00-8.30 pm
Book Bar, 57 Duxton Road, Singapore
Free and Open to All

Acclaimed Bangladeshi poet Mozid Mahmud presents his first novel Memorial Club in Singapore. Translated from Bangla to English by the author himself, Memorial Club is an intoxicating meditation on desire, dreams, and the limits of justice. Hasan is a young journalist in Dhaka, disillusioned about his job, dissatisfied with his pregnant wife, and yearning for his independent-minded colleague, Bilu. One fateful night, he stumbles into a hapless, embarrassing situation that turns his life upside down.

Mozid Mahmud will be joined by poet AK Zilani and scholar Nur Amali Ibrahim for readings and discussion at this special bilingual English-Bangla literary event.
