In “Die My Love,” Jennifer Lawrence delivers a performance as intense and unflinching as her turn in Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” This time, she plays Grace, a writer unraveling under the weight of postpartum depression and psychosis after the birth of her first child. Filming while in her second trimester of her own pregnancy, Lawrence admits she couldn’t help but measure her instincts as a mother against those of her character. “I really struggled with, again, my opposite instincts in trying not to compare what I would do to what Grace would do. It’s 100 times harder when you do have your own parenting instincts.” she tells V.
In a tête-à-tête with co-star Robert Pattinson and V’s , Lawrence opens up about how the characters evolved from script to screen, finding balance between motherhood and performance, and why the release of “Die My Love”—even after years in Hollywood—still triggered intense anxiety.
