December 10-2025— Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited successfully organized a comprehensive training program on Good Hygienic Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices for local dairy farmers at the Rai research centre.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality and safety of milk production in the state.
The event was graced by SCMPUL Chairman, Y.K. Sharma, as the Chief Guest, alongside Managing Director Dr. T.B. Ghatani, OSD Animal Husbandry PP Sharma, Dr. GR Gurung,Zilla panchayat,panchayats, veterinary officers and other officials.
BOD Member Shri MB Rai delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the informative session.
Dr. GR Gurung provided detailed instructions on daily milking methods, focusing on proper management and techniques for milking cows.
Dr. T.B. Ghatani advised farmers on best practices in feed management, milking time management, and overall hygiene practices.
PP Sharma emphasized the importance of animal care insurance for cows, urging Gwalas to take advantage of this facility.
Chairman Y.K. Sharma highlighted the state government commitment to uplift Gwalas and support young entrepreneurs in the dairy sector. He announced a compensation of ₹25,000 for Gwalas whose cows perish due to natural calamities and mentioned the provision of a discretionary grant from the BODs to genuinely needy farmers for cow care.
A large gathering of Gwalas attended the training, demonstrating strong interest in adopting the recommended practices.
