December 10-2025— Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited successfully organized a comprehensive training program on Good Hygienic Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices for local dairy farmers at the Rai research centre.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality and safety of milk production in the state.

The event was graced by SCMPUL Chairman, Y.K. Sharma, as the Chief Guest, alongside Managing Director Dr. T.B. Ghatani, OSD Animal Husbandry PP Sharma, Dr. GR Gurung,Zilla panchayat,panchayats, veterinary officers and other officials.

BOD Member Shri MB Rai delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the informative session.

Dr. GR Gurung provided detailed instructions on daily milking methods, focusing on proper management and techniques for milking cows.

Dr. T.B. Ghatani advised farmers on best practices in feed management, milking time management, and overall hygiene practices.

PP Sharma emphasized the importance of animal care insurance for cows, urging Gwalas to take advantage of this facility.

Chairman Y.K. Sharma highlighted the state government commitment to uplift Gwalas and support young entrepreneurs in the dairy sector. He announced a compensation of ₹25,000 for Gwalas whose cows perish due to natural calamities and mentioned the provision of a discretionary grant from the BODs to genuinely needy farmers for cow care.

A large gathering of Gwalas attended the training, demonstrating strong interest in adopting the recommended practices.

Medhavi Skill University Announces Exclusive Courses at Bermiok Campus During Media Conclave

Medhavi Skill University (MSU) at Bermiok, West Sikkim, hosted a significant media conclave today, marking the official announcement that its Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) course will henceforth be run exclusively from the Bermiok campus.
The event saw the attendance of prominent local figures, including the Hon'ble Area MLA, Shriman Loknath Nepal, who was accorded a warm welcome by the institutions Head of Department and other dignitaries.
Also present were Hon'ble Sikkim Milk Union Chairman Yam Kumar Sharma, OSD Fisheries Sanbir S***a, Bermiok Berthang Panchayat President Ganesh Prasad Sharma, panchayat members, and HODs from senior secondary schools, alongside a contingent of national media personnel from publications like the Deccan Chronicle, CNN News18, Hindustan times and The Hindu.
During the conclave, Kuldeep Sharma, the Co-Founder and Pro-Chancellor of MSU, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the university commitment to diverse skill development courses and outlining future plans for introducing new programs at the Bermiok campus, reinforcing MSU role in advancing professional education in West Sikkim.

Sikkim Milk Union Organizes Training to Elevate Dairy Standards

Khanisirbong, December 5 — Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (SCMPUL) successfully organized a comprehensive training program on Good Hygienic Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices for local dairy farmers (Gwalas) at the Khanisirbong Suntaley GPU.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality and safety of milk production in the state.

The event was graced by SCMPUL Chairman, Y.K. Sharma, as the Chief Guest, alongside Managing Director Dr. T.B. Ghatani, Additional General Manager Dr. Neelkamal Pradhan, and other officials, board members, and local panchayat representatives, including Panchayat President Sudip S***a.
BOD Member Shri Dr. Sharma delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the informative session.

Dr. Neelkamal Pradhan provided detailed instruction on daily milking methods, focusing on proper management and techniques for milking cows, and discussed the critical issue of thunalo (mastitis).

Dr. T.B. Ghatani, Managing Director, advised farmers on best practices in feed management, milking time management, and overall hygiene practices. He urged Gwalas to utilize the distributed 'Gwala Gyan' booklet for information on protein and other essential minerals in cattle feed, and to understand the importance of Fat and SNF content in milk.
Dr. Ghatani stressed the need for annual audits to track profit and loss and encouraged participation in the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Government Schemes and Gwala Welfare
Chairman Y.K. Sharma highlighted the state government commitment, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister shriman prem Singh Tamang Golay to uplift Gwalas and support young entrepreneurs in the dairy sector.
Sharma reiterated the government effort to support farmers by providing an incentive of ₹8 per liter of milk.

Mr. Sharma announced a significant benefit from the Sikkim Milk Union: a compensation of ₹25,000 for Gwalas whose cows perish due to natural calamities such as landslides and thunderstorms.

He also mentioned the provision of a discretionary grant from the BODs to genuinely needy farmers for cow care, encouraging them to continue supplying milk to the Union.

A large gathering of Gwalas attended the training, demonstrating strong interest in adopting the recommended practices to improve their livelihood and milk quality.

High-Level Coordination Meeting Held for Rolu Diwas at Rolu Mandir Premises

A crucial first coordination meeting to plan the upcoming Rolu Diwas celebration was successfully held at the Rolu Mandir premises.
