🌸 A Lesson from My Mother 🌸
💖 Years ago, when I was in Grade 10, I lived with my mother, my younger brother, and my mother's sister. My father had passed away about a year earlier, and life was not easy for us.
🚌 One day, my mother was coming home from work on a bus. She was seated at the front, while one of our neighbours was sitting at the back. Little did the neighbour know that my mother was on the same bus.
💔 The woman began gossiping about my mother with her friend, saying all sorts of hurtful and insulting things. My mother heard every single word but remained silent.
🚏 When they reached our stop, the two women got off the bus. Instead of getting off with them, my mother stayed on and got off at the next bus stop to avoid any confrontation.
🏡 When she arrived home, she told me everything that had happened. I was deeply hurt and angry on her behalf.
🚪 No sooner had she finished telling me the story than there was a knock at the door. I opened it, and to my surprise, it was the very same neighbour. I didn't know how to react because I was still upset by what she had said.
🥣 My mother heard her voice and came to the door. The neighbour was holding a bowl and asked if my mother could spare some mealie meal.
🤍 I expected my mother to confront her or refuse to help. Instead, she smiled, gave her the mealie meal she had asked for, and even laughed and chatted with her as though nothing had happened.
😔 I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I couldn't even pretend to be happy—my face revealed exactly how I felt.
💬 After the woman left, my mother called me and said:
"🌿 My daughter, vengeance belongs to God. Never repay evil with evil. Instead, overcome evil with good. As long as you know you have done nothing wrong, let God fight your battles."
❤️ Those words have stayed with me all my life.
🌱 Now that I am grown, I have learned to let God fight my battles, no matter how fierce they may be. Growing up, my mother taught me that not every battle is worth my energy. Sometimes, the greatest strength is to remain silent, do good anyway, and keep moving forward.
📖 "Do not repay anyone evil for evil... Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." — Romans 12:17, 21
📖 "Do not say, 'I'll pay you back for this wrong!' Wait for the Lord, and He will avenge you." — Proverbs 20:22
📖 "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." — Exodus 14:14
✨ That day, my mother didn't just teach me a lesson—she showed me what living by God's Word truly looks like.
