Window Cleaners on the World Trade Center, Manhattan, New York City (1979)

Perched hundreds of feet above Manhattan, window cleaners dangled from the side of the World Trade Center in 1979. The twin towers, only a few years old, stood as symbols of modern engineering, and maintaining them was no small task. Secured by ropes and harnesses, the workers moved slowly, carefully wiping away layers of grime left by wind and city air. From their perspective, the skyline unfolded endlessly, with the Hudson River glinting in the sun. Tourists below looked up in awe, unaware of the quiet precision happening above. The job was risky, requiring steady hands and nerves of steel. For these workers, it was just another day with a view no office could match.
