in anticipation of diatom deli’s forthcoming, self-released album sky~soft brown, a look back at time~lapse nature, released on rvng in 2022 ⏳

born and raised in tennessee, delisa paloma-sisk spent extended stretches of time with family in puerto rico while growing up, where she recalls hearing her grandmother’s neighbor play classical guitar every night. these nylon melodies lingered, guiding her to teach herself guitar and start recording her own music as diatom deli

years later, this early encounter would become one recollective thread in time~lapse nature, a sonic tapestry of memory and devotion. crafted between 2016 and 2019, time~lapse nature embodies deli’s excavation of her vibrant emotive spectrum, each piece pulsing with tenderness and vulnerability

throughout the album, deli embraces emotion in all its forms, creating space for feeling and vulnerability through airy vocal layers, immersive field recordings, and longing, looping guitar laments. a lush, loving album, time~lapse nature is a truly transcendent offering, equal doses melodic and magical

the penultimate movement of FreedomToSpend’s ongoing pep llopis reissue series arrives today with destiada 🌹🎭

destiada is the 1984 soundtrack for the dance-theater performance of the same name, marking llopis’ debut score for iconic avant-garde valencian company ananda dansa, a creative partnership that would continue throughout the ensuing decades. created in collaboration with vicent alonso, a fellow spanish composer and longtime collaborator, destiada is an elaborate universe of melody and timbre, uncannily and elegantly composed as any dream

the dance is structured as a lyrical fable about the struggle between life and death as seen through the crimson-tinted lens of the spanish bullfighting tradition. inspired to offer a “different musical approach to the world of bullfighting—as a fact, as a dream, and as a ritual,” the duo crafted a wholly new electro-acoustic grammar, built on a foundation of hypnotic repetition, intricate polyrhythm, and a vibrant, maximalist instrumental palette

in order to properly commemorate this truly wonderful occasion, chang is hosting a special album release show tonight, thursday, september 17, at nyc’s Night Club 101 🌊

the night will commence with two awe-inspiring, air-adorning sets from dear friends and financial collapse (carolyn). then, chang will conclude of the evening with a colorful, contagious performance accompanied by andréa schiavelli (Andréa Schiavelli) on bass and Matt Norman on drums 🫠

“motorcycles and cherry wind” and “under the canopy” are the latest travelogues from Isik Kural’s new album motorcycles and cherry wind, en route for october 30, 2026 🏍️🌸

the title track is a tender stroll through memory, gathering the carefree warmth of an autumn afternoon in marrakech into floral, fleeting memories. finger-picked guitar and airy string instrumentation evoke an ephemeral scrapbook of kural’s travels: the sweet fragrance drifting in the wind, the sunny chatter of passersby, the vibrant fruit delicately piled on market stalls. soon, the piece’s circular harmonies dissipate, a farewell to this honey-hued recollection

next, “under the canopy” is a song written in transit. set against a rain-soaked afternoon in glasgow, kural captures the quiet melancholy that surrounds every journey through a waterfall of chiming synths, the vibrations of a departing train, and muffled station announcements bleeding through a crackling speaker. melodies and field recordings synthesize to highlight the liminal space between arrivals and departures, a poignant reflection on the fleeting connections made between greetings and goodbyes
