President Kiir Confirms the Death of Gen. Majur Dak and 27 Soldiers in the Nasir Incident
In a tragic turn of events, President Salva Kiir Mayardit confirmed the killing of General Majur Dak alongside 27 soldiers in Nasir today. The incident occurred during a complex rescue operation involving two United Nations helicopters dispatched to extract the General from a war zone.
President confirmed it this evening during the nation’s address held in J1, Kiir said the UN helicopters were sent to assist in the extraction following intense fighting in the region, which has been a focal point of conflict between rival factions. During the operation, one of the helicopters successfully airlifted some personnel, but the second helicopter faced severe challenges.
However, one helicopter managed to escape the area, and later crash-landed in Malakal, resulting in the tragic loss of all passengers aboard.
President Kiir expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and emphasized the need for unity and peace in the country. “This is a devastating loss for our nation, and my heart goes out to the families affected. We must come together to seek peace and stability in our beloved South Sudan,” he stated in a press conference.
The death of General Majur Dak, a prominent military figure, has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict in the region and its implications for national security. The government has called for an immediate ceasefire and dialogue between the conflicting parties to prevent further loss of life.
The international community has also been alerted to the situation, with calls for increased support and intervention to stabilize the region. As investigations continue, the government of South Sudan is urging all factions to prioritize peace and work towards resolving the ongoing violence.
