Huge congrats to and the team behind the launch of the REEL WILD NEW YORK Film Festival!

So thrilled to see it come together — and even better to have 🐆 involved!

Kicking the weekend off with a green carpet and a panel discussion featuring so many talented filmmakers was the perfect start.

It was especially great to catch up with filmmakers :

📷 (who brought a hellbender 🦎 in a bow tie)
📷 (who was showing “Turtle Walker” the next night)
📷 (who advised on this fest and ).

This is a truly inspiring festival full of heart, talent and impactful films. Can’t wait to see what’s ahead!

Huge thanks to everyone involved and a special shout out to the talented Katie Garrett, who won for editing our video about saving two babies with a “domino” heart valve transplant! Some highlights from last night’s panel discussion at New York Academy of Sciences, N.Y.A.S. about the art of restoring coral reefs in and beyond!

Thanks panelists Mara Haseltine , Fernando Bretos, and Tom Goreau for an eye-opening and thought-provoking look at helping corals reproduce and grow among rising temperatures and coral bleaching.

Have you spotted the first of the season?

Did you know there are over 2,000 species of fireflies -- each with its own unique language of light?

The most common species in the U.S. is the Photinus pyralis or “Big Dipper” firefly. It starts flashing at dusk in a yellow-green J-shaped pattern around every 6 seconds.

What flashes have you seen?

Thanks New York WILD Film Festival , the team, and founder Nancy Rosenthal for 10 inspiring years!

You’ve ignited curiosity about our planet, you’ve inspired collaborations to share stories and save species, and you’ve sparked change...one inspiring documentary at a time.

I’ve attended every year since the beginning, and feel honored to have had four films in the festival over the years.

Though you may be ending in this form, I look forward to your next chapter of sharing films and champions of the planet, wherever that path may lead!
