Modern cars are not hard to repair just because they are complex.
They are hard to repair because many parts are glued together.
Mercedes-Benz is changing that.
The brand is moving away from permanent adhesives and toward screws and modular fastening for key components. It may sound minor, but it has real consequences. When parts are glued, even small damage can turn into an expensive repair because components are not meant to come apart cleanly.
Headlights are a clear example. In many cars, the lens and housing are glued together, making repair nearly impossible. Using screws instead of glue allows damaged parts to be removed and replaced without tearing apart surrounding sections. The same logic applies to body panels and doors, where modular fastening can reduce labor time, waste, and repair costs.
This is not about styling or marketing. It is about repairability, recycling, and long-term ownership costs.
Less glue. More screws.
Would you trust a car more if it was designed to be repaired instead of replaced?
