Switzerland is converting existing train tracks into solar power plants. A Swiss startup called Sun-Ways has developed removable solar panels that fit between the rails, using existing railway infrastructure to generate clean energy without disrupting train operations. The panels are installed mechanically and can be removed for maintenance. According to research from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, this innovation could generate enough power for thousands of homes if applied across the country. The system also reduces land use and supports Switzerland’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
