📄 “Experiences Reported by People with Epilepsy During Antiseizure Medication Shortages in the UK: A Cross-Sectional Survey”
👤 Kyeremaa, E. A. A. et al.

This survey of 1312 people with epilepsy and their caregivers reveals the widespread impact of antiseizure medication (ASM) shortages across the UK. Over 70% of respondents reported difficulty obtaining their prescribed medications in the past year, with shortages most frequently affecting carbamazepine, clobazam, topiramate, and other commonly used ASMs. Notably, 40% reported stress or anxiety related to shortages that was associated with recurrent seizures, underscoring the significant clinical and psychological consequences of supply instability. The findings highlight the urgent need for improved supply chain resilience and policies to minimize forced medication substitutions.

📄 “Bedside Medication Management: Pharmacy Technicians Managing Patient Medication Supply to Improve Nursing Productivity and Patient Safety”
👤 Simpson, T. W. et al.

This study evaluates a bedside medication management model where pharmacy technicians manage patient medication supply and review charts daily. Implementation in two hospital wards led to significant reductions in delayed and missed doses, faster medication turnaround, and more nursing time available for direct patient care, highlighting the impact of technician-led medication management on patient safety and workflow efficiency.

Audits of medication charts conducted by Royal Hobart Hospital Pharmacy revealed that dose omission was the most common medication error experienced by patients. Investigation of these errors also found that nurses spend significant time organising medication for inpatients. To address the issues co...

📄 “The Spectrum of Clinical Pharmacy Services in a Non-University Hospital—A Comprehensive Characterization Including a Risk Assessment for Drug-Related Problems and Adverse Drug Reactions”
👤 Zube, O. et al.

This study provides a full characterization of clinical pharmacy services (CPS) across all departments of a non-university hospital, documenting 1000 CPS in 504 patients. Pharmacists most often intervened during ward rounds, identifying frequent and sometimes severe drug-related problems—over 47% classified as severe or very severe. Notably, 15.36% of DRPs led to actual ADRs, and more than 50% of pharmacist recommendations were implemented, underscoring the substantial clinical value of CPS.

👤 Ashwaq Alharthi et al.

This study evaluates job satisfaction and intention to quit among pharmacists in Saudi Arabia. Among 330 respondents, only 26.4% were satisfied with their job and had no intention to quit, while 23% reported dissatisfaction with a desire to leave. Key factors influencing satisfaction included workload, professional development opportunities, shift work, pay, and benefits.

📄 “Socioeconomic Determinants of Career Intention in Pharmacy Students in Vietnam”
👤 Phan, Q. N. et al.

Based on responses from 462 pharmacy students, this study shows that family encouragement and urban origin significantly shape career intention in pharmacy, while gender and household income do not independently predict intention. Overall, 71.9% of students plan to pursue a pharmacy career, with family influence emerging as a key determinant.

Background: The pharmacy workforce in Vietnam is rapidly evolving, but little is known about how gender and socioeconomic factors shape career intentions and sector preferences of students. Understanding these determinants is essential for healthcare workforce planning. Objective: To investigate how...

📄 “Barriers and Facilitators of Using MyDispense from the Student Perspective: A Systematic Review”
👤 Collins, O. et al.

This review synthesizes findings from 15 studies and shows that students appreciate MyDispense for improving dispensing and counselling skills, enhancing their understanding of pharmacy law, and providing a safe, risk-free learning environment. At the same time, common barriers include a steep learning curve, technical issues (e.g. internet or UI problems), and limited realism because simulations often lack authentic patient-prescriber interaction.

MyDispense is a high-fidelity, low-stakes community pharmacy simulation, allowing students to practice dispensing skills.

📄 “Extemporaneous Preparation and Effectiveness of Low-Dose Naltrexone for the Treatment of Uremic Pruritus: A Literature Review and Case Report”
👤 Rungkitwattanakul, D. et al.

This report describes a hemodialysis patient with severe uremic pruritus refractory to standard therapies — after starting low-dose naltrexone (5 mg/day), her itching improved within 3 days; side-effects were mild and tolerated. The authors propose that compounded low-dose naltrexone could be a viable alternative when the approved treatment (difelikefalin) is unavailable.

Background: Uremic pruritus is one of the most debilitating complications among patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving hemodialysis. For patients who are refractory to traditional therapies (topical analgesics, antihistamines, or gabapentinoids), the use of low-dose naltrexone can b...

📄 “Hospital Pharmacists’ Perspectives on Documenting and Classifying Pharmaceutical Interventions: A Nationwide Validation Study in Portugal” 👤 Machado, S. et al.

This nationwide study shows that while Portuguese hospital pharmacists are committed to documenting and classifying interventions (P*s), lack of a validated, standardized tool limits consistency — highlighting the need for a unified national system to improve documentation, comparability and quality of pharmaceutical care.

Pharmacist interventions (P*s) are central to optimising pharmacotherapy, preventing drug-related problems, and improving patient outcomes. In Portugal, the absence of a validated tool to consistently document and classify P*s limits data comparability and service development. Given these gaps, this...

📄 How Have Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) Been Implemented in Pharmacy Education? A Scoping Review
👤 Luiz Claudio Oliveira Alves de Souza et al.

Read here: https://www.mdpi.com/2226-4787/13/6/156

Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) are units of professional practice entrusted to learners once they demonstrate the required competencies. This scoping review outlines how EPAs have been implemented in pharmacy education, most often through practical, workplace-based activities. Evidence shows improved student performance following EPA-based training, although challenges such as increased workload remain.
