🌍 The Special Issue “Feature Papers in Ecosystem, Environment and Climate Change in Agriculture” has extended its submission deadline to 30 June 2026.

Edited by Prof. Dr. Jianlin Shen, this Special Issue aims to publish high-quality papers that advance understanding of nutrient migration processes, mechanisms, their environmental impacts, and mitigation strategies for green production in farmlands. It focuses on the new mechanisms of nutrient cycling, responses of nutrient cycling to climate change, the measurements of nutrient migration fluxes under air–soil–water interface, prediction of nutrient losses using machine learning, and new techniques for managing nutrients cycling to reduce losses and improve soil health in farmlands.

With this extension, researchers have more time to share their latest findings and contribute to advancing sustainable solutions for agriculture under climate change.

🚀 A groundbreaking paper has just been published in Agriculture MDPI:
“Space Agriculture: A Comprehensive Systems-Level Review of Challenges and Opportunities” by Ehsan Fazayeli, Aaron Lee M. Daigh, Cassandra Palmer, Santosh Pitla, David Jones, and Yufeng Ge.

This review provides a structured synthesis of the major challenges to sustainable agriculture in space. It covers environmental differences (e.g., solar energy, atmosphere, and gravity), resource constraints (e.g., water, soil, and nutrient availability), biological complexities (e.g., crop selection and plant health), and operational factors (e.g., space utilization, psychological impacts, and system resilience). By integrating findings from planetary science, plant biology, space systems engineering, biotechnology, robotics, and controlled-environment agriculture (CEA), the review outlines current limitations and highlights emerging strategies such as regolith utilization, advanced hydroponics, crop selection and genetic engineering, and the use of robotics, sensors, and artificial intelligence (AI) for monitoring and automation.

🍇Thrilled to share a new publication in our journal:
“Life Cycle Assessment of Reclaimed Water Irrigation in Organic Vineyards: Environmental Impacts and Water Stress Implications in La Rioja, Spain,” by Adrián Agraso Otero, Mar Vilanova de la Torre, Maria Malia Molleda, Ricardo Rebolledo-Leiva, and Sara González-García.

🔎 This study applies Life Cycle Assessment to determine the environmental impacts of irrigating a Qualified Designation of Origin La Rioja vineyard with reclaimed water in the cultivation of organic grapes (scenario A) and compares it with an irrigation practice that uses canal water combined with organic extra-fertilisation (scenario B), accounting for differences in wastewater treatment processes. This research contributes to advancing sustainable agriculture and addressing water scarcity challenges in Mediterranean viticulture.
