Adult child abruptly ends vacation with 80-year-old parents after they couldn't join hikes: 'I said that I was tired of catering to them, they said that they had to cater to me for years'

Having a relationship with your aging family members isn't always the easiest. As their needs increase, you might be expected to take on more of a caretaker role. But how do you balance that with your life? How do you decide how much responsibility to take on? If you have siblings, then how much do you divvy up the effort? These are all tough, existential questions that don't have a clear answer. Plus, it can be an emotional time. You might be dealing with a lot of heavy feelings surrounding your loved ones getting older and not being able to do all the things they used to do.

The only way out is through, though. You have to push ahead and realize that you might have limited time with them, so you should try to make the best of it. This isn't easy to do, of course, but it's worth trying. But you might run into some bumps along the way. At least this family did, when a daughter's trip to the wilderness turned into ground zero for a difficult conversation.

'I don't feel like I should dedicate my life to you guys': Mom lets 20-year-old sister move in with her family on the condition she provides childcare, she protests when she's expected to babysit

This was the case between two sisters when the older one, who was a wife and mother, agreed to let her move in with her husband and kids on the condition that she would watch her younger child for a weekly stipend.

While the younger sister initially agreed to the agreement, she soon claimed it was too demanding on her mental health, and her duties dropped down to occasional babysitting only.

Two years later, she was working again, but contributing little to the household in terms of chores or finances. When she complained about being expected to babysit on one occasion after work, her older sibling began to wonder if it would be wrong to ask her to move out.

Living with siblings as an adult can sometimes prove a challenge for everybody involved. Even those with close relationships are not immune to being pulled into the petty squabbles that come with being at close quarters with family members,...

Discourse About How Much Guys Think About The Roman Empire First Surfaced On This Day

About

How Often Do You Think About the Roman Empire?, also known as Asking My Husband How Often He Thinks About the Roman Empire or the Roman Empire TikTok Trend, refers to a 2023 Instagram Reels and TikTok trend in which women asked the men in their lives (husbands, boyfriends, fathers, brothers, etc.) how often they think about the Roman empire. When asked, the men predominantly said that they think about Rome frequently, resulting in the women being surprised by that. The participatory trend gained traction in September 2023, eliciting reactions and responses from both men and women online who tried to reason with and describe the phenomenon of men's fascination with the ancient empire, as well as users adding their own versions of "my Roman empire" with different things they frequently think about. Much of the discourse centered on the "red flag" status of a man's answer. Discourse about the phenomenon originally surfaced in late 2022, due to Swedish influencer Saksia Cort ().

Origin

On September 25th, 2022, Swedish influencer Saskia Cort posted to Instagram a series of 10 screenshots showing DMs and comments about how often men thought about the Roman empire, inspired by a story she posted in which she asked her followers to ask their male partners and friends the question. When translated to English, the description of her post read, "Ask any guy if he thinks about Roman empire / More contributions are saved in my profile under highlights 'guys eat' and 'the kingdom of Rome' / A hug from the male scientist." Over the course of one year, the post gained roughly 3,000 likes (six examples, shown below).

Spread

Sakshi Cort's theory quickly gained eminence on the Swedish internet, evident in a news article published by Mitti Göteborg on November 25th, 2022.

The trend gained prominence on the American internet on August 19th, 2023, when Instagram user posted a Reel that had text reading, "Ladies, many of you do not realise how often men think about the Roman Empire. Ask your husband/ boyfriend/father/ brother you will be surprised by their answers!" The Reel gained roughly 51,900 likes in one month (shown below).

Going into September 2023, women online started to post videos in which they asked the men in their lives how often they thought about the Roman empire. For instance, on September 1st, 2023, TikToker posted a video asking, presumably, her partner the question who responded with "every day," gaining roughly 192,800 plays and 7,800 likes in 13 days (shown below).

On September 5th, 2023, X/Twitter user posted about the original Instagram Reel, stating, "So I asked my husband: 'How often do you think about the Roman Empire?' / And without missing a beat he said 'Every day.' / YALL! Why!?" receiving roughly 25,900 likes in nine days (shown below).

The trend started to gain significant virality when TikToker posted a video on September 13th, 2023, about the phenomenon, referencing 's X post. Her video received roughly 1.2 million plays and 136,200 likes in one day (shown below, left). Then, later on September 13th, TikToker posted a video asking her boyfriend the question, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 221,200 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).

The only thing I remembered about rome was that it wasn’t built in a day. I really wish I had a different childhood and paid attention in school because clearly, i’m missing out on Roman Empire facts that don’t live with me on a weekly basis. ♬ original sound – Just call me T

Viral videos following the trend continued to surface on TikTok going into mid-September 2023, with users creating variants of the original for topics they commonly think about under the catchphrase "my Roman empire."

'Soup of the day implies another, possibly even seductive, soup of the night': 23 Memes and posts to get you through the day

We all need a little boon every now and then. And I'm not talking about Benson. No, we all need little miracles to get us through the day. Maybe it's the bus arriving right after we get to the station. Maybe it's that first sip of your post-lunch Diet Coke. Maybe it's a text from a friend that lets you know they're thinking of you. Or maybe it's memes from the internet.

Memes from the internet are the perfect antidote to whatever you're feeling. They will make your day just a hair brighter, and sometimes that's all it takes. They will take you out of your slump and into something beautiful, something worth celebrating. Memes are here for me, and they're here for you. They're here for all of us; they don't discriminate. They just want you to have a good time, no matter who you are or where you come from. It's why we keep coming back to the internet. We just can't get enough of those funny little images and posts that make us feel seen.

'You can play house [with] my dad, but don't patronize me': 26-year-old puts Dad's new 28-year-old girlfriend in her place when she starts acting like a strict stepmother on family vacation

When parents split up, it can be traumatizing for their kids, but not as traumatizing as the moment those same parents relaunch themselves into the dating pool. While children of split households yearn for the reformation of their parental union, it's not always in the parents' best interest. However, when this dad decided to get back into the game of love, he started fishing in the shallow end.

After falling in love with a woman who was only two years older than his eldest daughter, he realized the error of his ways chasing younger women. Because there's one thing a daughter will always fight for, and that's her father's affection. So if she needs to battle Daddy's 28-year-old girlfriend, the gloves are definitely coming off.

Why Are People Connecting Charlie Kirk's Murder To The Film 'Snake Eyes?' The 1998 Nicolas Cage Movie And The New Conspiracy Theory Explained

The assassination of Charlie Kirk, the right-wing political pundit and organizer, has a few similarities to an assassination in the 1998 film Snake Eyes, starring Nicolas Cage.

Some users have pointed out coincidences that the movie plot and the real-life crime have in common. For one, the character who dies in the film is named "Charles Kirkland," and he's shot in the neck, about where Kirk was shot on September 10th.

The budding conspiracy theory about the film and Kirk's death has generated interest online, but what's there to know? Is all that's being said accurate? Let's explain.

What Is The Charlie Kirk Snake Eyes Conspiracy Theory?

On September 10th, 2025, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University. The event sparked a nationwide manhunt for the shooter. 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was later taken into custody by authorities as the case's main suspect.

In the wake of Kirk's death, viral discourse ensued about the circumstances that led to it. Much of the internet focused on the suspect, Robinson, as many tried to pin down if he was a "groyper" or a "furry."

Conspiracy theories also sprouted from the event, including the one in question, about the 1998 film Snake Eyes. It stars Nicolas Cage as Ricky Santoro, "a flamboyant and corrupt Atlantic City cop," who is present at the assassination of the Secretary of Defense, Charles Kirkland, at a live boxing event, according to IMDb.

Kirkland is notably shot in the neck in the scene. The parallel is obvious to those familiar with the graphic video of Kirk's final moments that was all over Twitter / X on that day.

Another coincidence is the name of one of the professional boxers who is competing in the fictional match. An advertisement for the prize fight is shown in one screencap from the film, reading the nickname "Executioner Tyler" for the character Lincoln Tyler.

The date in the screencap also appears to be September 10th, the same day that Kirk died. However, the date in the film actually reads, "September 19th," as the image capture is a bit blurry due to the 1998 quality.

Where Did The Charlie Kirk Snake Eyes Conspiracy Theory Come From?

The coincidence between the film and the shooting was first noticed by a Redditor in a film-centric subreddit four days after the event.

The post didn't gain major traction, but 10 days later, many echoed its discovery on other social media platforms.

Notably, X user shared a video about the theory on Wednesday, September 24th. The post included a voice-over video in which the person behind the camera explained the elements of the theory.

The video also outlined another coincidence between Nicolas Cage's hands on the film's poster and similar gestures made by U.S. President Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk himself.

There are NO COINCIDENCES.The 1998 Movie "Snake Eyes" with actor Nicholas Cage, the politician CHARLES KIRKLAND is shot in the neck.In the movie, the shooting happens on SEPTEMBER 10th.Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck, in real life on September 10th.You just can't make… pic.twitter.com/zNiqchI4mK

'I snapped in a very petty way': Mother-in-law moves in and keeps wife up all night with her nosiness, wife gets revenge by scaring MIL in the middle of the night in costumes

Mother- and daughter-in-law dynamics have long been the stuff of sitcoms, whispered commiserations at girls' nights, and entire Reddit threads. At their core, these conflicts usually boil down to two clashing truths. Moms don't stop parenting just because their kids get married, and spouses don't stop craving autonomy just because in-laws are suddenly considered family. Put both of those truths under one roof, and nothing good can come of it.

One woman recently found herself in the thick of this battle after her mother-in-law decided to stay with them in between leases. What started as a gesture of generosity quickly spiraled into deep regret. Nights turned sleepless thanks to late-night TV, knocks on the bedroom door at midnight, and snack runs at 1 a.m. Days became strained with bathroom hogging, kitchen reorganization, and backhanded comments about her daughter-in-law's nail business being "just a hobby."

This Elephant In The Room Really Wants You To Address Him In Viral Reaction Image

About

"Address Me" Elephant is a reaction image of an elephant standing in the middle of a room captioned, "Address me," a visualization of the idea of addressing "the elephant in the room," an expression meaning the obvious issue that nobody wants to talk about. The stock image of the elephant was first posted online in 2017, with the "address me" caption being added in later years. The meme became increasingly popularized throughout 2025 as a reaction used to call a poster out for failing to address something. The elephant meme also inspired edits, redraws and other variants, where the caption "address me" in a similar or the same font is edited over other images.

Origin

On April 8th, 2017, iStock user mphillips007 uploaded an image of an elephant standing in a conference room surrounded by knocked over chairs and items, titled, "Elephant in the Room stock photo." The image was used that year in an article by Horizon Leadership.

The earliest known meme to use the elephant image was posted by Redditor u/Xxmeatdestroyer69xX to the /r/memes subreddit on August 15th, 2019, garnering roughly 30 upvotes in six years. The meme places the TikTok logo over the elephant and is titled, "Can we address the elephant in the room?" although it is unclear what exactly the meme is referencing.

The elephant continued to inspire some memes over the following years, such as an iFunny meme with one like on December 11th, 2021, and a post by Instagram user _______bagel_______ on November 27th, 2023, that gained over 14,000 likes in two years.

On June 12th, 2025, X user posted an image of the elephant with the caption "address me" across the bottom, writing, "How I feel when I’m in a room with one of my ops," gaining about six likes in three months. This is the earliest known version of the "address me" meme.

Spread

The "Address Me" Elephant meme garnered viral spread over the following months as it was shared on various sites and social media platforms in the latter half of 2025.

On July 3rd, 2025, it was posted to Tenor. On the same day, TikToker posted a video commenting on how funny the saying "let's address the elephant in the room" is, resulting in the meme and variants of the meme being posted in the comments section. The video gained over 111,000 views in two months.

LMAOOO the end has me crying 😭

On September 16th, X user posted an edit of the meme depicting the elephant as the Arabic Strawberry Elephant, garnering around 400 likes in just over a week.

On September 19th, 2025, X user posted an edit of the elephant depicting him as Gaster from Undertale in response to a post by the game's creator, Toby Fox, announcing that he can change the character's name at any save during the game's 10th anniversary stream. The post jokes that Fox should acknowledge that Gaster is repeatedly one of the most voted-on names. It gained over 32,000 likes in a week.

The elephant continued to be used in reference to the Undertale stream. For example, on September 20th, X user posted it under the caption, "The new area in Undertale ruins," garnering over 13,000 likes in five days.

On September 21st, 2025, X user posted an edit of several Undertale characters riding the elephant, writing, "This address me elphant is getting pretty crowded…," suggesting Fox has a lot of unanswered questions to address, garnering over 31,000 likes in four days.

Sister demands $30k from late father’s will to pay for dream wedding, caretaker sibling who inherited the money says no: 'If he wanted to fund my sister's wedding, he would've set aside money for that'

Sometimes, inheritance has a way of stirring up more drama than it's worth. One woman shared how her father's will left her enough money to pay off her student loans and start saving for a home, a deliberate choice, since she was the one who moved back to care for him during his final years. Her sister, who lived out of state and rarely helped, inherited jewelry and a beloved restored car. On paper, it was a fair distribution. In practice, not everyone was on the same side.

Now that the sister is engaged and planning a wedding well outside her budget, she asked for $30,000 from that inheritance, claiming "Dad would've wanted it." When the caretaker sibling said no, the family turned on her. Their mom accused her of tearing the family apart, cousins weighed in with guilt trips, and the bride-to-be threatened not to invite her to the wedding at all.

‘I would not take her spoiled brats anywhere’: Man offers to take sick friend's 8-year-old daughter to Disneyland Paris with his family, his sister thinks her 3 teenagers get a free invitation

When our loved ones are struggling, we take it upon ourselves to make their lives more comfortable in any way we can. This might take the form of babysitting their children free of charge, lending them some cash when their wallet is tighter than they'd like, or giving their children a good time while they deal with a serious illness.

Not all of us have Disneyland money, but the man in this next story does. This man's friend is seriously ill and jobless while his wife works two jobs, so it's safe to say they're financially struggling. To help, the man offers to bring his best friend's 8-year-old daughter to Disneyland Paris with him and his family. The man sees this as nothing but a favor for a friend and wants to alleviate some pressure on his best friend's household for a little bit. Seeing the smile on the little girl's face is just a bonus!

Enter the entitled older sister who expects the man to take her three teens with him and his family… without offering to pay. Not to mention that the older sister has more money than the man. What can you do? Well, you just say no. His sister was not happy.

‘It’s my home too': Brothers buy a house together, then after 11 years, the eldest gets married, and tries to kick out his sibling to start a family

A pair of brothers bought a house together, but when the time came for one of them to want the place just to himself, their relationship became rocky. The problem is that they both bought it together: their names are on the mortgage together, they made a down payment together, and they've both lived there for over a decade.

So the question remains. Who gets dibs on a shared home?

The eldest brother with a new wife who wants to start a family of his own? Or the younger brother who doesn't mind their shared living situation? Frankly, in a dispute between simple roommates, it's usually the one who wants a place of their own who's responsible for finding a new place to live, but this older brother felt that he was entitled to kick lil' bro out on the curb, just because he wanted to redecorate his room into a nursery.

25+ of the Funniest Parenting Tweets of the Week (September 25, 2025)

It's a beautiful time to be a parent. The world makes sense, things are easy, and everything is cheap. Yep, it's wonderful out there, no matter where you are, and it's never been simpler. You definitely don't have to make tough decisions every day and explain difficult concepts to your children because there's so much going on in the world that is hard to explain even to an adult. No, none of that, silly! Everything is cheese on toast!

No, unfortunately, it's not easy to be a parent, nor has it ever been. At least now we have streaming services, high-tech toys, and all sorts of research about what is good and bad for the baby. Oh, the research! It never ends, and it all tends to say different stuff. Luckily, we have some lifeboats to help us through the journey. We have our friends, we have our family, we have our network of childcare, and we have these tweets. These tweets are an important part of the balance of it all. They help us make sense of the world.
