📡🌪️ When weather reminds us of the limits of steel

This video shows a scenario every ham radio operator fears:
a 40 m Yagi beam mounted on a 13-meter guyed tower, facing extreme wind gusts.

Despite proper guy tension and a serious installation, the combined effect of antenna wind load, mechanical stress, and violent gusts exceeds the structure’s limits.
The mast bends, guy wires overload, and structural failure becomes unavoidable.

👉 This is not a careless setup or poor workmanship.
It is a clear reminder that nature can overpower theoretical calculations, even with solid equipment.

This video is not meant to shock, but to raise awareness:

about proper engineering margins,

the specific challenges of low-band antennas,

and respecting extreme weather conditions.

Who said Santa Claus doesn’t do radio?
Because this year… he definitely broke the bands! 🎄🔥

He showed up on 20 meters wearing his red suit, sleigh parked in portable mode, reindeer holding the coax, and Santa himself… microphone in hand:
“CQ CQ, this is Santa Claus portable North Pole, QRZ?!”

And of course, like a true DXer, he logged every single contact in his big book — right next to the list of well-behaved children!
Even his reindeer tried calling in CW… well, something like .-..-.* (we’re still trying to decode that 😅).

So next time someone tells you Santa doesn’t do radio…
Just show them your logbook.
He might have already worked you! 🎅📡✨

🌬️📡 When the wind picks up… the antenna struggles.
My 3-element Mini-Beam is shaking, bending, clearly not happy with these gusts 😅
You can feel it fighting the wind, taking hit after hit.

But in the end?
👉 It’s still standing.
Still aligned. Still ready for DX.

Because even when the wind is strong…
the radio stays on the air. 💪📶
