EU elections can have limitless lists

There can be two votes in the next EU election, if the European Parliament gets
what it wants. But the member states seem to resist. And the Swedish members
are skeptical.

With a narrow but clear majority - 323 votes against 262 and 48 abstentions -
the parliament in Strasbourg has voted through its proposal for new election
rules for the EU elections in 2024.

Biggest difference: the desire to give each voter two votes instead of one.
In addition to the usual voting for a domestic party from their own country,
they also want to introduce an extra constituency with common candidates from
all countries.

"This really disgusts me," writes Jimmie Åkesson (SD) in a tweet about a question on
this year's national test in history.

The question was: "A Social Democratic debater wrote in 2017: 'The Sweden Democrats
believe we are living in the 1930s.' Which country's history from the 1930s did the
writer probably think of?"

The correct answer was Germany.

A case of "propaganda aimed at school children" thinks Åkesson (SD) and rages against
the National Agency for Education - which thinks that the whole thing is an unfortunate
misunderstanding.

- I regret that it can be misunderstood that the National Agency for Education makes
this connection. But if you were to see the whole task, it becomes clear that similar
statements are made about other political parties, says Anders Boman, unit manager
at the National Agency for Education to DN.

Warning for high levels of birch pollen
Birch is currently in full bloom all the way up to Stockholm and the Mälardalen area,
according to pollenrapporten.se, which warns of high pollen levels.

The warning extends a good distance north of Stockholm in the eastern parts of the
country and applies there all the way up to northern Dalarna and Gästrikland.

The reason is partly that birches that are in warm positions have started to bloom
there as well, and partly that south winds transport pollen particles for long distances.

On Thursday, birch pollen can reach the southern and northern Norrland coast with an
increased risk of high concentrations all the way up to Umeå.

High risk means that the probability of high levels of a certain type of pollen during
the forecast period is estimated to be greater than 50 percent. (TT)
