ZOOT wishes you Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

“Merry X-Mas” is an archival ZOOT editorial, produced in 2010 in Zurich by Swiss photographer Hanspeter Schneider and styled by Paris-based ZOOT Fashion Editor Véronique Droulez. Shot in a caravan park, this Christmas is bold, cheesy, and joyfully excessive — a festive styling spectacle turned all the way up, we LOVE!

ZOOT at JENNY FAX SS26 “Everyday”

Taipei-born designer Jen-Fang Shueh, based in Tokyo since launching Jenny Fax in 2011, has built a world where nostalgia and modernity collide. Educated in Taiwan, Paris, and Belgium, her work blends emotional storytelling with precise craftsmanship — collections that feel like fragments of memory stitched into fashion.
Unveiled during PFW, her SS26 collection “Everyday” transforms the mundane into the surreal. Set in a plain office space, ten models sit at their desks — typing, pausing, drifting into thought. In these small, familiar gestures, Shueh reveals a quiet rebellion: the tiny acts of mental escape we find in routine. ZOOT contributing photographer Lauren Cremer captured the presentation in Paris this autumn.

ZOOT backstage at VALENTIM QUARESMA SS26

POST 2— PART 2/2

Photos

Alongside metal, wood plays a central role in the SS26 collection. Quaresma introduces spiked forms worn as crowns, collars, and body armour, carved from wood and painted to achieve a striking 3D effect.
Head adornments have long symbolised power — from crowns and helmets to ceremonial headdresses. Here, spikes amplify both authority and protection, referencing punk mohawk hairstyles as well as animals whose spines function as defence.
These pieces are conceived as wearable armour: protective, ritualistic, and symbolic. Like porcupine quills, the spikes assert presence while marking individuality. They do not decorate the body — they guard it.
As Quaresma puts it, these are not accessories, but protective forms for the body.

GENERATION Z: UNDER WATER

ZOOT launches a new interview series on Generation Z — a generation navigating identity, visibility, and uncertainty, while redefining what it means to be seen and heard.

In this first chapter, model and professional swimmer Inga Carvalho reflects on the challenges of femininity and the emotional weight of growing up in a world marked by conflict. Trained by discipline in and out of the water, she brings rare clarity to questions of strength, vulnerability, and self-definition.

POST 1 — PART 1/2

Contemporary jewellery, for Valentim Quaresma, is a form of communication — driven by artistic thinking and conceptual intent, where the body becomes optional. Often described as “shape alchemist,” Quaresma transforms industrial materials into sculptural body ornaments.
For SS26, he channels the idea of a futuristic tribe, drawing from 1980s punk subculture — a lineage famously explored by Vivienne Westwood. Central to the collection is the zipper, presented in multiple scales and placements, actively interacting with the body.
Historically, the zipper has functioned as a mechanism of control: opening and closing, concealing and securing. Invented in 1893, it remained hidden within seams until Elsa Schiaparelli elevated it into a visible design element. Quaresma extends this evolution, crafting oversized brass zippers in his studio — industrial, assertive, and deliberately exposed.
Here, the body becomes mechanised, with zippers placed in hair and on skin, hinting at hybrid, almost cyborg-like figures, where function transforms into statement.

Antonia Rosa Make-up Course — Form Follows Function

Beauty begins with ideas that rethink, disrupt, and redefine expression. In the course finale, photographed by Nuno Beja, students were challenged to translate Bauhaus principles into make-up. Rooted in the idea that function defines form, they stripped beauty back to structure, geometry, and intention, using colour, line, and texture as tools of design — pushing beauty beyond trends and into modern expression.

ART AT WAR: Where are we now?

Hailing from a creative team in São Paulo, Brazil, this editorial reflects on Cold War Berlin through the eyes of someone navigating our present reality. Set against a city once split by the Berlin Wall, which stood from 1961 to 1989, where East and West were defined by division, ideology, and constant surveillance, the story follows characters who traverse both literal and symbolic borders, carrying traces of rebellion and resilience. In a world still shaped by walls, systems, and screens that monitor and separate — art becomes an act of resistance, and simply being human emerges as the most radical act of all.

VIVIANO SS26: Romantic Vintage Aesthetics Forged in Chaos
 |

VIVIANO’s SS26 collection, Neo-Romanticism, shows how memory, craft, and cross-cultural influence remain vital in an industry moving at breakneck speed. While earlier collections channeled emotion through colour, this season strips the palette back to black and off-white, revealing a new kind of clarity. With colour removed, the bones of his design language surface — maximalism now lives in structure and textile, exposing the sharp precision of his pattern-cutting.

In this interview with ZOOT, designer Viviano Sue breaks down the contradictions, the chaos, and the craft that shape his world.

Beauty editorial Trace Elements

ZOOT Vol. 2 #3 — Summer 2010

Between New York and Los Angeles: Photographer Taghi Naderzad captured a series of intense beauty portraits of model Pilar G Solchaga, with production and make-up by longtime ZOOT collaborator Ralph Siciliano, styling by Lara Backmender, and hair by Ryan Taniguchi.

The make-up in Trace Elements draws directly from nature: embroidered, tattoo-like markings applied across the face, functioning like an all-over print — turning skin into surface, and beauty into texture and pattern.

“In a world that fears the dark, ‘Darkness’ emerges as a cultural and ancestral force. Between fashion, memory, and resistance, it becomes a symbol of pride and connection, where Blackness is not a shadow, but a source of light.” — Djenice Duarte
