I am devastated by hair cut experience
I have been growing my hair out for literal years. Moved to a new city and decided to try out our local ulta for my first professional hair cut in over a year. Normally I just trim at home. Once at the salon, she immediately tried to up sell me into a conditioning treatment. I politely declined and was asked two more times if I was sure I didn’t want to do a treatment. She asked what I was looking for and said “minimal length off, basically a trim, with a face framing layer” and showed her a video.

This is what I got. Before my hair was healthy and down to my bum crack & now it’s barely to the middle of my back. I feel like the layers do not blend and in order to blend will need to be cut shorter to fix. I know it’s just hair and in the grand scheme of things, not the end of the world. But I am heartbroken over years of dedication being destroyed. For $62 I was expecting more skilled stylists… I have never complained about a hair cut in my life and am anxious to reach out to the salon manager. The reviews of this location have multiple negative reviews about managers attitudes. I’m just trying to prepare for the worst. Would you be upset? Am I over reacting? Would you ask for a refund?

How bad of an experience is this??? Am I dramatic??
***First photo is the reference photo I showed her. The other three are what I left with***

After looking at some other posts on this thread about negative Ulta Salon experiences, I feel like I’ve gotten lucky so far. I’ve been several times previously and have had great experiences, and a few of my friends have selects stylists they see there as well. Anyway, this most recent experience seems to be different.

My husband wanted to book me a surprise salon appointment for my first Mother’s Day as a gift (I hadn’t had my hair done in a while since we just had a baby a few months ago). My regular stylist was booked so, I told him to just choose who was available for that day, as I’ve only had good experiences at this Ulta location. We booked a full highlight/balayage service and signature haircut which quoted me around 230, give or take. I made the appointment for 10:30 so I would be done around 1:30-2:30 at the latest and still be able to come home and spend time with the baby and husband.

I get to the appointment and another stylist greets me, i stated I had an appointment with (insert stylist name here). The stylist I booked with pops out from the sinks and says “sit down and I’ll be over in a minute” sooo I do that. Immediately, she starts complaining to me that she thought she would be leaving early today until she saw I booked an appointment (even though it had been booked for a week and confirmed the day prior). I apologized (should’ve left right at the point) and told her it was a gift from my husband for Mother’s Day. She does a quick consult with me where I show her a reference photo (inserted) and just go over what I’m wanting - which was just a trim and some blonde through my ends blended with my natural root color. Just something to freshen my hair up, look natural, and get some blonde throughout. She comes back to give me a sticky note that has a full highlight, signature haircut, gloss, and Olaplex treatment and quotes me $349. I mention my budget was around 250 or so and no gloss or treatment was needed, just the toner that was included. She stated that I had to have these items to achieve the look I wanted. She gave me the option of a partial highlight instead, which was $328. I just told her to go ahead with the full highlight since I wanted the color throughout. (Second chance I had to leave that i should’ve taken).

I’ll spare the drab details but, long story short - I was there until almost 4:30 (SIX HOURS!) and left with chunky highlights that are boldly different from the base color she used. I’ve never had ANY appointment take this long and I’ve asked for the same thing from multiple salons before. It took so long she had to wash the color out of the foils in the back and sent me back to sit down and process another 30 minutes on the sides which resulted in having hair color and bleach dripping down my neck and blotching the bleached hair that was still in foil.

The entire time I was there she was trauma-dumping on me about how she didn’t have a car and has no money, her daughter started stripping at the local strip club and is addicted to co***ne, her daughter is taking her abusive baby daddy to court and he’s lucky she doesn’t “bash his head in with a hammer”. And just more wildly inappropriate information about her family, friends, clients and everyone in the tri-state area it seemed like. Mind you, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE EVER MET THIS WOMAN. She, at one point, went on a tangent about how a long-term customer of hers complained on about her services and never came back after requesting someone else to fix her hair and was name-calling the customer (it was too late to leave at this point since I had color in my hair). So I just said “yes it looks good!” when the service was completed so I could get the heck out of there!!! Once I got home I realized it was a lot worse than I originally thought. And I ended up spending $398.00 after a $40 tip. Am I being dramatic???? Would you be pleased with this experience for $400.00 on what was supposed to be an easy relaxing day? I hate to complain and be confrontational but I am so upset over this entire experience! Please give me advice on what to do and if I’m being dramatic about this. I just hate the way it looks!

I have to cut off 1/3 of my hair 😭 (according to my loctician)
I’m getting micro locs installed (half way done). I did not see this coming. I didn’t think split ends would be something I had to worry about with locs.

I actually like the way my hair looks so far including the ends (looks better in person than photos.) She said I needed to cut off the “dead ends”/split ends or risk ruining my locs and needing a big chop. I’ve never heard anyone say these things about locs online.

What do you all think? Are there solutions that don’t involve cutting my hair? Can I just leave my hair alone?

I don’t want my stylist to fix my hair, how do I ask for a refund..?
I hate hate hate speaking up for myself when it comes to stuff like this because I know the pressure and I don’t want to be mean or picky. but in going to scream into the void for advice.. I booked with a stylist who cut my hair worse than I ever have at home. I usually do cut my own hair, but I wanted to go somewhere with someone who had experience to help me get what I wanted better. I specified how important it was to me that it wasn’t cut shorter. I only wanted a trim, and I asked for side bangs. I cried when I left. I watched her do so many thing I know you shouldn’t do. I should’ve spoke up when she washed my hair with really hot water but I didn’t. I watched her cut my bangs the wrong direction after parting it the side I wanted, I wanted to trust the process.. ha told her I wanted to be able to still pull it up, I can’t and it will take months to be able to. she chopped one side of the top of my hair off so short, the other side doesn’t match, and if I wanted to even it out I’d have to cut my hair short again. im just so sad, I am growing it out from another bad hair cut and they keep cutting me so short it feels like im never going to be able to grow it out at this rate. I have micro bangs, one side goes past my temple almost to my ear. I want to cry. I called to ask if I could see someone to talk about it and she booked me in to fix it, but I don’t want her to touch my hair again.. I don’t want to go back. can I ask for a refund so I can go to somewhere better..? I want to cry. I wanted to grow my hair out so bad and im going back to square one :(

Not what I asked for?
Don’t get me wrong, I think the finished product looks beautiful, but pic 1 is the inspo and pic 2 is what I got. I left really happy but when I got home noticed how blonde I truly looked. I asked for balayage and she foiled my whole head and brought the lightener up pretty high. We talked before hand about how I’d like to keep a lot of my natural brown (which is the same brown as the inspo) and how I wanted a lot of dimension with my natural peeking through.

I feel like I left very blonde and am not sure if I’m overreacting?:(

What I started with, what I asked for, what I got (see all 4 pics)
So I am naturally a redhead… I wanted to brighten it up, so I asked for the reddish orange color… what I got is this bright red cool-aid color! 😩 i feel like she should have added some orange to it. What do you guys think? Am I just stuck with this color now?

Edit: Just got a picture from the front, it's in the comments. And it's bad :(

Hello! I just got my hair cut. I'm used to the hair dresser spraying water on it and cutting with scissors, but this gal used a hair straightener (with no heat protection) and cut it with a hair clipper/trimmer machine. Is this uneven and not great (especially on the sides) or am I just over reacting?

Help needed! I payed $300, can I ask for a refund?
I got my hair done 6 days ago and these are my roots, are they bad? They look harsh and the rest of my hair looks unblended. Can I ask the salon for a refund or partial refund?
