The Pinyin clan in Mezam Division of the North West region celebrated a historic milestone on April 11, 2026, with the enthronement of HRM Kenneth Khan Asobo III as Paramount Fon, ending nearly a decade of uncertainty after the disappearance of his predecessor.

The ceremony, attended by top administrative authorities and community members, followed his designation by kingmakers in November 2025 and weeks of traditional rites. The event was widely described as a rare and emotional moment for the people, marking a new chapter in the clan’s leadership.

During the ceremony, authorities urged the new Fon to prioritize peace, unity, and development, while working closely with both the administration and neighboring communities.

He was also tasked with addressing challenges such as conflict, hate speech, and social division, while strengthening local security initiatives.

Community members expressed optimism, pledging support for development and communication efforts, as the new Fon assumes leadership over the six villages that make up the Pinyin clan.

The inauguration of the Vengo Baptist Hospital marks a major milestone in improving access to quality healthcare for the people of Babungo and surrounding communities, especially for residents who previously travelled long distances for advanced medical services in Ngoketunjia Division.

Upgraded from the former Finkwi Baptist Health Center, the hospital was officially unveiled on February 14, 2026, through a partnership between the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) and the Babungo community.

Completed within 15 months under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2024, the project includes a modern surgical ward, fully equipped theatre, maternity block, and a doctor’s residence.

Funded largely by contributions from Babungo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora with support from VEMNCUDA, the facility is expected to enhance service delivery despite challenges such as unpaid medical bills, power outages, and poor road access.
