Bamenda: A man identified as Agwa Richard was shot dead last Thursday night behind the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary,Bamenda II subdivision, family members and local residents told TEBECK TV BAMENDA .

Richard had left his home at Mulang Thursday to harvest plantains in Alahkoro, a locality in Mankon, according to relatives. Family sources say he was abducted by gunmen around 1 p.m. near a small market known for palm wine sales on the way to Alahkoro.

The family said they received no ransom demands or calls during the period he was missing. Relatives say Richard was tortured, with one of his hands broken.

Around 7:30 p.m., residents of Nitop, an area located behind the hospital mortuary, reported hearing gunshots. Witnesses said a man was brought to the area on a motorbike by armed men and shot multiple times. After the gunmen fled, locals transported him to Bamenda Regional Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Richard’s wife had been trying to contact him that evening. After word spread of a shooting in the area, the family went to the hospital,Friday morning where they were directed to the mortuary and identified his remains.

The motive, and the circumstances surrounding the abduction and shooting remain under investigation.

ASHONG-BATIBO: Chieftaincy Crisis in Ashong Is Over, says ACENCUDA President........

The national president of the Ashong Central, Cultural and Development Association, ACENCUDA, says the chieftaincy crisis in Ashong is over and urged residents to respect traditional authorities in the community.

“Respect is clear,” ACENCUDA National President Akuro Mbah Vincent said. “When you go down there you respect Chief Mbafor. When you come up here you respect Chief Enowngang. Problems only arise when you try to defy their authority.”

Mbah Vincent made the comments recently while addressing recent tensions over road rehabilitation work in the village, which was halted by some ACENCUDA members a few weeks ago.

He said the stoppage followed complaints from residents that construction equipment had encroached on private land and damaged crops. TEBECK TV has not independently verified the claim.

He said last year’s rehabilitation was carried out by Ashong native Fongoh Valentine, CEO of Fongoh & Partners, with ACENCUDA contributing more than 500,000 CFA francs for fuel. He says the association was surprised this year when a report by TEBECK TV attrattributed this year's work to ASCUDA, the Ashong Cultural and Development Association.

The ACENCUDA president said the Divisional Officer for Batibo Subdivision told the association the project was a contract awarded to Fongoh & Partners to rehabilitate roads in Ashong village.

TEBECK TV contacted the Mayor of Batibo by phone. The mayor disputed that account, saying no road rehabilitation contract could be carried out in Batibo Subdivision without his knowledge.

Mbah Vincent said before any such project moves forward in Ashong 'Central', the developer should consult local and traditional authorities for approval.

Fongoh Valentine is the CEO of Fongoh & Partners Real Estate Solutions, based in Buea. The company owns road construction equipment including bulldozers and graders.

Valentine has supported several development activities in Ashong and neighboring communities, including opening and grading farm-to-market roads, organizing holiday sporting events, and funding other projects worth several million CFA francs.

Mbah Vincent said ACENCUDA “remains the champion of development in Batibo Subdivision” and is ready to welcome any development-oriented initiative that follows proper procedure.

Akum: The president of the Akum Zone Cooperative Credit Union marked his first 100 days in office last Thursday with a symbolic handover of a motorcycle to a commercial rider at the union’s Mile Five head office in Akum.

The event showcased the union’s “Okada” loan product, designed to help bike riders own motorcycles through small, structured loans. Officials say the initiative is central to a broader effort to expand financial access for low-income earners across Cameroon’s Northwest Region.

Bamenda:Akum Zone Cooperative Credit Union Marks 100 Days with Motorcycle Handover to Riders

The Akum Zone Cooperative Credit Union with office in Akum, Santa subdivision marked its first 100 days under new leadership on Thursday, May 21, 2026, by handing over a brand-new motorcycle to a commercial bike rider at its Mile Five head office.

The handover was made under the union’s “Okada” loan product, which offers riders access to motorcycles through small, structured loans.

“We’re assessing what’s been done in my first 100 days,” said Tichap Terence, president of the board of directors of the union. “The delinquency rate is going down, interest payable is going up, and more people are taking loans.”

Terence said the increase in lending comes from offering smaller loans that members can manage. “We get the okada riders to open accounts and save together. Then we buy them bikes, and they pay back gradually. That’s how we empower the society,” he said.

One beneficiary, Christian, said the program gave him a clear path to owning his bike.

“I started saving here, and they offered me this bike", Christian told TEBECK TV. “You pay back the cost of the bike plus interest, no extra upfront fee. The terms are good, so I took it to set an example for other riders.”

Christian urged other riders to open accounts with the union to access the same opportunity.

The union, based in Cameroon’s Northwest Region With several branches says the initiative is part of its focus on expanding financial access for working members.

Mbengwi: Hundreds Protest in Mbengwi Over Creation of New Village and Traditional Ruler

Hundreds of residents from Mbengwi Central marched through the streets of Mbengwi, Momo Division, on Friday May 22 to protest a government decision they say carves parts of Mbengwi and Ku villages into a new settlement with a traditional ruler whose origins are disputed.

The demonstration was organized in response to the creation of a new village named “Mbengwiteghenibi” Protesters, joined by traditional rulers including the Fon of Mbengwi, carried peace plants, Cameroon flags, and portraits of President Paul Biya as they marched toward the office of the Senior Divisional Officer for Momo Division.

Placards bore messages including “No pseudo village between us,” “No! No! To divide and rule,” and “No to division, chieftaincy is by hereditary.” Demonstrators accused local authorities of redrawing boundaries and taking land from Mbengwi and Ku without community consent naming an influential individual the traditional leader.

“We are not against development, but you cannot create a village and impose a chief on people whose history you don’t know,” one protester said during the march.

According to local sources, the delegation was denied access to the SDO’s office after officials said the demonstration had not been authorized and was deemed illegal. The Senior Divisional Officer for Momo Division, Fouda Etaba Benoit, did not receive the delegation, sources said.

Local residents also raised broader concerns about administrative decisions in the Northwest Region, alleging that some officials have created villages and appointed traditional rulers without regard for local customs and traditions, leading to tensions between communities.
