RELATIONSHIPS AND MARRIAGES ARE KEY DETERMINANTS OF SUCCESS AND FAILURE!
(Episode 8 of 10: Swimming out of poverty series)

This topic is normally avoided by many because of how sensitive and subjective it could be. To begin with, did you know that “faithfully raising a family as opposed to divorcing or raising children as single parents is one of the cardinal ingredients to reducing poverty?” But no one teaches about this as a wealth technique despite it being very important. A research done by the Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin found that ‘Work Ethic’ and ‘Faithful relationships and family’ are the two things that have utmost bearing on your upward mobility. I am not moralizing but bringing out a wealth technique. Let me break it down; a number of studies have shown that a faithful monogamous marriage or relationship is a serious indicator of wealth potential. Interestingly, George Gilder says, ”It is more relevant than where you are born, how much money you are born into, how much access you have to education, or any other factor.”
At the beginning of this series, I shared how Jews have stood out globally—accounting for a quarter of millionaires in the USA and 22% of the Nobel Prizes globally despite having a population of just 15million. One of the outstanding fundamentals embedded in them is that of monogamous relationships and marriages which place love of family and devotion to their faith.

It might surprise you to know that bearing children outside wedlock is one of the top reasons pulling towards poverty globally. If you can wait to have children until marriage and decide to raise them within marriage, you would have made an astronomical trajectory towards wealth. Naturally, you may easily point at single mothers who are doing well. It is very possible to be successful as a single mum but definitely more difficult. It is even more difficulty if you start bearing children outside wedlock early or at a younger age. An u***d teenage with a baby will have it harder than an u***d established thirties lady.

Naturally, when you begin breaking the ceiling by advancing to the next level as you swim out of poverty, there is always an addition of numbers interested in you from the opposite s*x. It is at this point that most people tend to lose focus and end up failing to achieve what their potential would have allowed them to.

Most male folks who engage in multiple relationships while dating or in marriage have kissed goodbye to an opportunity of swimming out of poverty. Maintaining more than one female at a time comes with a lot of financial expenses and most importantly, it is a serious drain on the precious resource which is time. You cannot achieve and attain much as a man if terrorizing every skirt near you is part of your agenda. Also, females should be careful enough not to be taken advantage of by males who are in the business of parasiting on their resources and time hence keeping them within poverty realms. The mental stability achieved when one is in a monogamous relationship is extremely critical to achieve exceptionally well.

The kind of partners we choose for a relationship and ultimately marriage have a huge impact on the level of success we will achieve. It is a fact that some people generally get rich through divorcing the rich as such, much care must be taken to choose one who is as ambitious and focused to the direction you may be wanting to get to.

CAN ONE ESCAPE POVERTY IF GIVEN MONEY? THE PAINFUL REALITY.
(What we truly have to do to escape poverty)

Why not just solve the problem of poverty by unleashing more money to poor people? Why is the gap between the rich and the poor growing? Did you know that the top 1% of the wealthiest people control about half the global wealth, if the global wealth of $250 trillion was shared equally each living human being would part away with $33,000 (K610,000). With this kind of money, would poverty be alleviated?

I will be spending time on the ‘Radical Entrepreneur media platforms’ and at DLN Entrepreneurship Institute to address how we can create wealthy. Even if the global wealth was equally distributed because of Behavioral aspects, within a year wealth will certainly gravitate back to those who were wealth before redistribution.

To get us started and prepare us for real wealth, let me respond to the key question of, WHAT DID THE WEALTHY DO TO ESCAPE POVERTY?

In the early 1900s when the world was experiencing a lot of inventions over three million Jews arrived at the shores of the United States of America as poor immigrants from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania and later joined by those escaping the Holocaust from German. When they arrived each immigrant had an average wealth of $9 (K160) and that’s it: no rich parents, no infrastructure or a system to help them on arrival, in other words they were the definition of Poverty.

Within fifty years the average family income of Jews is more than double the average income of Americans who had everything at their disposal 50years earlier. Today about a 100 years later, despite being 2% of the American population, 100 out of 400 billionaires according to Forbes are Jews. This is the same across the global, they out prosper everyone around them. Despite having a population of 15million which is way less than the population of Zambia, 22% of the Nobel Prizes are held by Jewish descents. That is about a quarter of all Nobel Prizes while African descents (Blacks) with a population of over 2.1billion have 1.5% of Nobel prices and non among them is in science.

It is clear that what makes Jew successful wherever they go is VALUES. It is the way they are raised to THINK which is passed from generation to generation. Far from external factors, more of internal no wonder external negative circumstances have never deterred them from succeeding.

Let me pick out two major traits from their VALUES that we Africans especially have to learn from this outstanding group in wealth creation.

The first thing is that Jews read much more than most people around them. It has always been their religious norm that they read the Torah from a young age. Their reading culture has made them outstandingly unique no wonder their exceptional Academic achievements as can be picked from Nobel Prizes. As Africans we need to start reading and rewrite our history, this can be noticed even from the books published globally as an example China alone publishes over 440,000 books annually while the whole of Africa does less than 30,000 according to UNESCO records.

The second most import aspect that we need to learn from Jews is that they are Entrepreneurial. They are more inclined towards starting their own business as opposed to search for a job. It is clear cut fact that being your own boss is one greatest keys to wealth. Most of us believe that entrepreneurship is hard and complex but to the contrary small and medium enterprises are the back bone of all major economies. We need to teach ourselves to enterprise.

We are glad that Institutions like DLN Entrepreneurship Institute are at the core in changing the narrative in Africa as they train practical entrepreneurship.

Success and greatness isn't about how much money you make, rather it's about how much lives you've touched. Be an impact maker. The beginning may always be tough but never give up.

The first step into being great and successful is to take 100% responsibility of your life. Stop giving excuses, stop complaining to the wrong people and stop blaming people for your failures.
