The group is called Nfweh in Babungo
The Mfwei is a special society that functions outside the palace, but is answerable to the Tifuan ( Ngumba). It's responsible for the kingdom's peace, protection, and cleansing, and its members perform their rituals once a year, but when there is an abomination in the kingdom, they are called on to perform the cleansing sacrifice. During the rainy season, especially in the weeding period, they move from door to door and from one corner of the kingdom to another, performing protective sacrifices. It is said by most legends that during this period the crops were protected from evil, insect pests and the wind, especially the maize that is about to ripen. They go round with special Calabashes, called ghene mfwei, which contain a concoction made from different herbs.
The purifier also uses the leaves or stems of a special plant called membua. From my own experience and information obtained from the majority of legends, when somebody dies of a disease with a protruding stomach or commits su***de, it's this group of people who buried him.
They are also believed to stop rain from falling during special occasions.
