The Director General of Elections, Dr. Essousse Erik, has officially handed over the candidacy files for the October 12, 2025, presidential election to the Electoral Board. The Board's Chairperson, Dr. Enow Abrams Egbe, received the files today at the opening of the Board's second Session As of Right, in preparation for the election. The Board will now scrutinize the candidacy papers and publish the final list of candidates as per the electoral code.

Good Morning from Cameroon and around the world.

Elections Cameroon received a total of 81 files as at Midnight of Monday 21st July 2025.

Next stage: Examination of the files by the Electoral Board who have till the 13th August 2025 to present the final list of those retained.

Highlights of the first phase include:

✓ It is the highest number of files ever received
✓ The CPDM, UPC, MANIDEM, UNIVERS all presented more than one candidate.
✓ A possible rejection of candidacies of parties that presented more than candidates.
✓ Prominent Cameroonian female politicians like Kah Walla absent from the race.

Professor Maurice Kamto formally submits his candidacy for the 2025 Presidential Elections.

The runners up at the 2018 Presidential Elections with 14%, submitted his file under the MANIDEM Political party of Anicet Ekane.

Professor Maurice Kamto was greeted at the entrance to Elections Cameroon by a mammoth crowd cheering him.

The Divisional Officer of Bamenda II, Nicolas Nkongho Manchang was shot in the night breaking Thursday 17th July in Limbe.

According to official information at our disposal, the DO is currently receiving treatment in a health facility in Limbe and in a state of coma.

Investigations have been opened to unmask the perpetrators. The Observer will keep you informed.

Hon Joshua Osih, National Chairman of the SDF arrives Bamenda to deposit his candidacy for the 2025 Presidential Elections. He was welcomed by hundreds of SDF supporters.

Hon Osih is depositing his candidacy at the birthplace of the party, Bamenda.

Anglophones take it all at Bar elections.

In a historic move, Anglophones will man the Bar General Assembly and the Bar Council for the next two years.

Early on in the race, Bar Gbaka Ernest was elected as President of the General Assembly of the Cameroon Bar Association. Bar Ewule Lyonga another Anglophone was elected as Vice President of the General Assembly of the Bar.

Often known that when the President of the Bar General Assembly is Anglophone, the Bartonier (President of the Bar Council is Francophone). But the incumbent, Bae Mbah Eric Mbah spring a surprise and retained the top job as Bar Council President in what many see as historic.

Bar Mbah Eric Mbah is credited for working tirelessly with the Minister of Justice to have the Bar exams organized after a 10-year wait. He will lead the Bar Council for the next two years. These are the other members of the 15-man Bar Council.

President Paul Biya Declares Candidature for 2025 Presidential Elections

The President of the Republic and National President of the CPDM, Paul Biya has declared that he will be a candidate at the October 12th Presidential Elections.

In announcing his candidature, Paul Biya said; "I am a candidate for the 12 October 2025 presidential election.
Rest assured that my determination to serve you is commensurate with the serious challenges facing us.
Together, there are no challenges we cannot meet.
The best is still to come." His page read.

The President of the Republic who is seeking his 8th term in office has been head of state for 43 years.

He posted that; "ensuring the security and well-being of the sons and daughters of our beloved and beautiful country is the sacred duty to which I have devoted my time and energy since assuming the helm of the state.

"The results are palpable, visible and laudable.

"Thank you for the massive support you have continued to give in this endeavour." The message read.

The declaration of the President of the Republic clears the air as speculations said he might decide to retire owing to his age.

The declaration comes few days after the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, concluded his broad based consultations with Members of Government and Members of Parliament.

President Paul Biya has been President of Cameroon since the 6th November 1982.
